Provided is a polyphenylene ether flame-retardant resin composition having excellent flame retardance and long-term flame retardance. The flame-retardant resin composition contains: (A) a resin including (A-1) a polyphenylene ether; and (B) a flame retardant. The (A-1) component has a content of 50 mass % or more when the flame-retardant resin composition minus ash content, corresponding to a residue obtained upon burning of the flame-retardant resin composition, is taken to be 100 mass %. A shaped article of 12.6 cm in length, 1.3 cm in width, and 1.6 mm in thickness formed from the flame-retardant resin composition exhibits a rate of change of chloroform-insoluble content of 15 mass % or less through aging in which the shaped article is left for 1,000 hours at 150&#xb0; C. in an atmospheric air.

Polyphenylene ether flame-retardant resin composition

Provided is a flame retardant resin composition excellent in flame retardance, and surface smoothness, appearance, flame retardance and electrical properties after a long-term thermal aging (e.g. 150&#xb0; C., 500 hours) while maintaining mechanical and electrical properties. The disclosed flame retardant resin composition is a flame retardant resin composition containing a polyphenylene ether, in which, based on UL94 flammability test, an average burning time of a molded product having a length of 12.6 cm, a width of 1.3 cm and a thickness of 1.6 mm formed of the flame retardant resin composition before and after the aging processing in which the molded product is left to stand at 150&#xb0; C. for 1000 hours under the atmospheric pressure is within 10 seconds, and a change rate of chloroform-insoluble component of the molded product before and after the aging processing is 15 mass % or less.

Flame-retardant resin composition

The thermoplastic resin composition contains (A) a polyamide, (B) a polyphenylene ether, and (C) a compatibilizer. When the thermoplastic resin composition is molded into a specimen, a continuous phase containing the polyamide (A) and a dispersed phase containing the polyphenylene ether (B) are formed in the specimen, and E-20 represents a mean ellipticity of the dispersed phase in region I extending from a surface of the hinge portion to a depth of 20 &#x3bc;m in the thickness direction, and E-mid represents a mean ellipticity of the dispersed phase in region II extending from a distance, measured along the thickness direction from the surface, equal to 48% of the thickness to a distance, measured along the thickness direction from the surface, equal to 52% of the thickness, the following formula (1) is satisfied:4.0&#x2264;(-20)/(-mid)&#x2003;&#x2003;(1).
