In a process for the preparation of epoxy group-containing alkoxy silanes by hydrosililation of a terminally unsaturated epoxy compound with a hydro-alkoxy silane using a platinum catalyst, the improvement comprising carrying out the hydrosililation in the presence of an alcohol. By this process formation of the internally sililated isomer can be suppressed and the desired terminally sililated poduct can be produced at an approximately 100% selectivity.

According to the present invention, heterocyclic copolymers comprising recurring units [A] and [B] having specific structures are obtained by hydrolyzing reaction products of diisocyanate compounds having specific structures with tolidine diisocyanate and hydrogen cyanide. This invention relates to a p-methyl styrene polymer represented by the following formula: ##STR1## Z denotes a group such as a functional group. Poly p-methylstyrene (PPMS) is lithiated by reaction with n-butyllithium. The lithiated PPMS is used to prepare polymers containing functional groups. As an example, a solution of PPMS (MW 260,000), 1.0 g in 20 ml of cyclohexane, was reacted with n-butyllithium, 8.5 mmol, and tetramethylethylenediamine, 8.7 mmol, for 20 hours to obtain a precipitate. The precipitate was dissolved in THF, and CO.sub.2 was blown into the solution. The solution was washed with an aqueous solution of HCl and dropped into methanol to obtain a solid polymer having carboxyl group functionality.

A process for preparing aminopropyl alkoxy silanes comprising reacting an allylamine having at least one active hydrogen atom attached to the amine nitrogen atom with a hydro-alkoxy silane having from 1 to 3 alkoxy groups attached to the silicon atom in the presence of a rhodium complex having inorganic ligands, at least one of said ligands being carbonyl. A process for producing a catalyst component for polymerization of olefins which comprises contacting (a) a metal oxide with (b) an organomagnesium compound represented by the formula RMgR' wherein R denotes a hydrocarbyl group and R' denotes a hydrocarbyl group or a halogen atom, contacting the resulting contacting product with (c) carbon dioxide, and further contacting the resulting contact product with (d) a titanium compound. A novel styrene copolymer having a functional group, i.e. silyl group on the para-position of the aromatic ring, useful as a functional polymer, is provided.
