The present invention provides compositions and method of using an aldimine oxazolidine compound having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are, individually, a hydrogen atom, a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cycloalkyl group, or an aryl group, including any of the above groups substituted by nitro, halogen, thiol and amino functional groups, such that when R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are hydrogen atoms, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are not hydrogen atoms, further, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 cannot simultaneously be hydrogen atoms; m and n are integers of one to three, and m+n is between two and four; and X is a covalent bond between the nitrogen atom of the aldimine group and the nitrogen atom of the oxazolidine group or an (m+n-valent methylene group, ethylene group, straight chain or branched chain alkylene group, cycloalkylene group, or arylene group, including any of the above X groups substituted by nitro, halogen, thiol and amino functional groups. The aldimine oxazolidine compounds are useful for improving the physical properties and improving the pot life of coatings.

Aldimine oxazolidines and polyisocyanates

Methods of using a mixture as a corrosion inhibitor, moisture scavenger, formaldehyde scavenger, rheological modifier, thermoplastic foam inhibitor, antifreezing agent, decolorizing agent, drying agent and corrosion inhibitor are provided by the present invention. The mixture comprises an aldimine oxazolidine compound having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are, individually, a hydrogen atom, a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cycloalkyl group, or an aryl group, including any of the above groups substituted by nitro, halogen, thiol and amino functional groups, such that when R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are hydrogen atoms, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are not hydrogen atoms, further, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 cannot simultaneously be hydrogen atoms; m and n are integers of one to three, and m+n is between two and four; and X is a covalent bond between the nitrogen atom of the aldimine group and the nitrogen atom of the oxazolidine group or an (m+n)-valent methylene group, ethylene group, straight chain or branched chain alkylene group, cycloalkylene group, or arylene group, including any of the above X groups substituted by nitro, halogen, thiol and amino functional groups.

Aldimine oxazolidines and their use with polyisocyanate preparations

Methods of using a mixture as a corrosion inhibitor, moisture or formaldehyde scavenger, reactive diluent, rheological modifier, thermoplastic foam inhibitor, antifreezing agent, decolorizing agent, drying agent, agent for reducing bubble formation, and an agent for reducing downglossing. The mixture consists of from 0 to 100 mole percent of an iminoalcohol compound: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, a branched or straight chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cycloalkyl group, or an aryl group; R.sub.2 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cycloalkyl group, or an aryl group, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are fused together with the attached carbon to form a cycloalkane ring; R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are, individually, a hydrogen atom, a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, or a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group; R.sub.6 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, an ethyl group, or a straight chain or branched chain alkyl group; and R.sub.7 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cycloalkyl group, an acyl group, an aryl group, an ester containing group, or an amino containing group; and

The present invention provides a moisture-scavenging composition including the compound: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is a methyl group, or a branched or straight chain alkyl or alkanol group; R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.6 are, individually, a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cyclic alkyl or an aryl group; R.sub.5 is a methyl or methylol group, or a branched chain or straight chain alkyl or alkanol group; R.sub.7 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cyclic alkyl group, a carbonyl group or an aryl group, or R.sub.7 and R.sub.6 are fused together with the attached carbon to form an eight member bicyclic compound having the structure: ##STR2## wherein: R.sub.1 ' is a methyl group or a branched or straight chain alkyl or alkanol group; R.sub.2 ', R.sub.3 ', and R.sub.4 ' are, individually, a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cyclic alkyl or an aryl group.

Moisture scavenging oxazolidines

A moisture-scavenging composition including a mixture of moisture scavenging compounds, wherein the mixture consists of from 0 to 100 mole percent of an iminoalcohol compound: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, a branched or straight chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cycloalkyl group, or an aryl group; R.sub.2 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cycloalkyl group, or an aryl group, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are fused together with the attached carbon to form a cycloalkane ring; R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are, individually, a hydrogen atom, a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, or a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group; R.sub.6 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, an ethyl group, or a straight chain or branched chain alkyl group; and R.sub.7 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl or methylol group, an ethyl or ethylol group, a straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkanol group, a cycloalkyl group, an acyl group or an aryl group; and
