An optical collimator comprises an optical fiber ( ), a ferrule ( ), a GRIN lens ( ), a metal sleeve ( ), and an outer metal tube ( ). The optical fiber has an exposed end which is inserted into the ferrule and glued thereinto. The GRIN lens is glued into the sleeve. Opposite ends ( ) of the GRIN lens protrude from opposite ends of the sleeve. The outer tube includes first and second receiving portions ( ). The ferrule is glued into the first receiving portion, and the sleeve is secured in the second receiving portion. A plurality of soldering holes ( ) is defined in a periphery of the outer tube. Soldering is applied to the sleeve through the holes to firmly connect the outer tube and the sleeve together. A position of the GRIN lens relative to the optical fiber can be easily readjusted by re-soldering the sleeve.

Optical collimator and method for making same

A collimating device ( ) comprises a GRIN lens ( ), a filter ( ) and an outer tube ( ). The GRIN lens and the filter are both secured in the outer tube. The outer tube is made of stainless steel, and has a first receiving portion ( ) and a second receiving portion ( ). The first receiving portion is cylindrical, and defines a cylindrical cavity ( ) therein for receiving the GRIN lens. The second receiving portion is also cylindrical, and defines a generally rectangular cavity ( ) therein for receiving the filter. The GRIN lens and the filter are glued in the outer tube with relatively little epoxy, and with no excess epoxy contaminating optical faces thereof.

Collimating device and method for making same

A modular connector of the present invention comprises an insulative housing, at least two terminal modules, a shell for enclosing the insulative housing and indicating devices. The insulative housing defines at least two mating cavities in a front portion and at least two insert openings in a bottom wall thereof. The terminal modules each comprise a plurality of contacts injection molded in a spacer thereof and are inserted into the insert openings from a bottom side of the insulative housing. The indicating devices are received in first receiving grooves defined in the insulative housing for signaling circuit transmission. The shell encloses the insulative housing while providing openings for insertion of at least two mating connectors and apertures for protrusion of the indicating devices therethrough.
