Systems and methods are provided for transfecting cells, such as mammalian cells and nonmammalian cells, using an electroporation apparatus having an electroporation chamber including a first electrode, a second electrode and a path defined in the electroporation chamber. The electroporation apparatus includes a first input allowing passage of cells and cargo into the electroporation chamber and a first output allowing passage of electroporated cells from the electroporation chamber.

Electroporation devices and methods of cell transfection

Systems and methods are provided for transfecting cells, such as mammalian cells and nonmammalian cells, using an electroporation apparatus having an electroporation chamber including an upper micromesh electrode, a lower micromesh electrode and a path defined in the electroporation chamber. The electroporation apparatus includes a first input allowing passage of cells into the electroporation chamber and a first output allowing passage of electroporated cells from the electroporation chamber. The first input and the first output are separated by an offset distance.

Micro flow-through electroporation devices and methods of cell transfection

An apparatus for electroporating cells with a cargo includes electrodes defining a path for a fluid including the cells and the cargo to flow, a power source coupled across the electrodes, and a control circuit. In some examples, the control circuit is configured to detect a decrease in an induced current due to an increase in a resistance between the electrodes, and control the power source to increase the induced current to maintain an electric field between the electrodes. A future value of the resistance between the electrodes may be predicted based on previous values of the resistance. In other examples, the control circuit is configured to detect parameters of the fluid flowing between the electrodes, and control the power source to generate or stop generating electrical pulses in response to detecting the parameters. Other example apparatuses, and methods of electroporating cells with a cargo is also disclosed.

Electroporation with active compensation

A wireless implant and associated system for motor function recovery after spinal cord injury, and more particularly a multi-channel wireless implant with small package size. The wireless implant can further be used in various medical applications, such as retinal prostheses, gastrointestinal implant, vagus nerve stimulation, and cortical neuromodulation. The system also includes a method and its implementation to acquire the impedance model of the electrode-tissue interface of the implant.

Wireless implant for motor function recovery after spinal cord injury

A flexible thin film metal oxide electrode fabrication methods and devices are provided and illustrated with thin film polyimide electrode formation and IrOx chemical bath deposition. Growth factors of the deposited film such as film thickness, deposition rate and quality of crystallites can be controlled by varying the solution pH, temperature and component concentrations of the bath. The methods allow for selective deposition of IrOx on a flexible substrate (e.g. polyimide electrode) where the IrOx will only coat onto an exposed metal area but not the entire device surface. This feature enables the bath process to coat the IrOx onto every individual electrode in one batch, and to ensure electrical isolation between channels. The ability to perform selective deposition, pads for external connections will not have IrOx coverage that would otherwise interfere with a soldering/bumping process.

In certain embodiments an electrode array for epidural stimulation of the spinal cord is provided where the array comprises a plurality of electrodes disposed on a flexible polymer substrate; said electrodes being electrically connected to one or more lead wires and/or connection points on an electrical connector; where the electrodes of said array are bonded to said polymer so that the electrodes can carry an electrical stimulation signal having a voltage, frequency, and current sufficient to provide epidural stimulation of a spinal cord and/or brain in vivo or in a physiological saline solution, without separation of all or a part of an electrode from the polymer substrate.

Multi-electrode array for spinal cord epidural stimulation

Disclosed is a resonant wavelength measurement apparatus, including a light source and a measurement unit. The measurement unit has a guided-mode resonance filter and a photosensitive element. The guided-mode resonance filter has a plurality of resonant areas, and each resonant area has a different filtering characteristic, to receive first light in the light source transmitted by a sensor or receive second light in the light source reflected by the sensor. The first light has a first corresponding pixel on the photosensitive element, the second light has a second corresponding pixel on the photosensitive element, and the first corresponding pixel and the second corresponding pixel correspond to a same resonant wavelength.

Methods of fabricating a multi-electrode array for spinal cord epidural stimulation

A gastrointestinal stimulation apparatus and methods with an electronic controller and a flexible and stretchable electrode array with a central branch and orthogonal bilateral branches that wrap around a section of the gastrointestinal tract and can accommodate repetitive contraction and relaxation movements of the tract. Array branches have a flexible spring structure, stimulation electrodes, recording electrodes, sensors controlled by a controller and adhesion nodes that fix the branches to the tissue. The electrode array can sense the normal peristalsis from upstream tissue and produce a stimulus signal to stimulate the incapable intestine section to generate stimulation-induced contractions. Electrodes on the incapable intestine section can be used for stimulation or recording, the recorded signal from the incapable intestine section can be sent back to the electronics to form a closed loop control system. An impedance measurement using current stimulation can be used to capture low frequency contraction signals.

Flexible and stretchable electrodes for gastrointestinal implants

Neural signal recording apparatus and method is described, in which a micro electrode array is utilized for performing a weighted matrix as a moving window providing superpositioning of electrode signals. A voltage distribution across the electrode array is determined as a Laplacian. The apparatus and method can be utilized in a variety of electrode sensing applications involving registering neural activity, and for electrode stimulation applications, or combinations thereof.

Focused recording and stimulation electrode array

Thermal rectifiers using linear nanostructures as core thermal conductors have been fabricated. A high mass density material is added preferentially to one end of the nanostructures to produce an axially non-uniform mass distribution. The resulting nanoscale system conducts heat asymmetrically with greatest heat flow in the direction of decreasing mass density. Thermal rectification has been demonstrated for linear nanostructures that are electrical insulators, such as boron nitride nanotubes, and for nanostructures that are conductive, such as carbon nanotubes.

Solid state thermal rectifier

The present invention provides a neural sensing device and method for making the same. The neural sensing device includes a base, an integrated circuit portion, a plurality of microprobes and at least one conductive via. The base has an active surface and a backside surface. The integrated circuit portion is disposed on the active surface of the base. The microprobes protrude from the backside surface of the base. The through silicon via is disposed in the base and electrically connects the integrated circuit portion and the microprobes. Each of the microprobes includes an isolation layer partially covering a conductive layer.
