In example implementations, an apparatus for detecting hardware components is provided. The apparatus includes a multipurpose integrated circuit comprising an input pin, a hardware component coupled to the input pin and a two-way communication bus coupled to the multipurpose integrated circuit. The multipurpose integrated circuit is to receive an interrogation signal from a processor for the hardware component coupled to the pin via the two-way communication bus. A response signal that indicates that the hardware component is detected on the pin is generated in response to the interrogation signal. The response signal is then transmitted to the processor over the two-way communication bus.

Hardware component detections

An example disclosed herein is a non-volatile storage medium including instructions relating to control of power that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to monitor a supply of power to a regulator, decouple supply of power to the regulator when the monitored supply of power is below a predetermined level, couple a power pack to the regulator to supply power to the regulator when the monitored supply of power is below the predetermined level, and generate an Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) G1 Sleeping state signal when the monitored supply of power is below the predetermined level.

Power controls

A keypad circuit provides a signal corresponding to an actuation of a button. A query is presented to confirm intent to place an apparatus in a low-power state in response to the signal. The apparatus assumes a low-power state in response to a confirmation. The apparatus is also configured to assume an active state from a low-power state in response to the signal. Point-of-sale terminals and other apparatus can be controlled and operated accordingly.
