The invention discloses a signal clamping device capable of clamping a signal with a clamp level that is set according to a frequency characteristic of the signal and a method thereof and a related optical storage system. The signal clamping device includes an equalizing unit, a determining unit, and a clamping unit. The equalizing unit is utilized for equalizing the signal and generating an equalized signal. The determining unit is utilized for generating an indication signal according to the equalized signal. The clamping unit is utilized for determining a clamp level according to the indication signal and clamping the signal with the clamp level.

An exemplary method of controlling an optical storage apparatus includes: driving a first mechanical mechanism of the optical storage apparatus by applying a first control signal to the first mechanical mechanism, wherein a second mechanical mechanism of the optical storage apparatus is inactive while the first mechanical mechanism is operating in response to the first control signal; adjusting the first control signal applied to the first mechanical mechanism when the second mechanical mechanism is requested to be active; and driving the second mechanical mechanism by applying a second control signal to the second mechanical mechanism while the first mechanical mechanism is operating in response to the adjusted first control signal.

A method for controlling a position of a laser spot of a laser beam on an optical storage medium of a land and groove recording/reproduction type is provided. The method includes: detecting a pulse occurring in a reference signal while the laser spot is passing through a boundary between a groove track and a land track, wherein the reference signal is generated according to a reflected laser beam from the optical storage medium; determining a compensation value of the reference signal according to the pulse; utilizing the compensation value to adjust the reference signal for generating an adjusted reference signal; and utilizing the adjusted reference signal to control the position of the laser spot.
