A light source includes a first LED in communication with a first DAC; a second LED in communication with a second DAC; a third LED in communication with a third DAC; a color sensor capable of sensing light in the visible light spectrum; and one or more processors configured for: receiving color intensity values from the color sensor, determining whether the color intensity values are balanced to achieve white light, adjusting the current to the second DAC and third DAC until the color intensity levels are balanced to achieve white light at a combined intensity level, setting a new red LED current value, a new green LED current value, and a new blue LED current value to adjust the combined intensity level toward a target intensity level, and repeating the setting step until the target intensity level is achieved.

Endoscopic light source and imaging system

Systems and methods for detecting, characterizing, and addressing the type of endoscope that is connected to the camera/light source based on the image size taken using that endoscope are disclosed. Systems and methods for medical imaging illumination

An endoscopic system having a light source that can operate in two modes is provided. The first mode provides a white light to an endoscope to transmit the light to a surgical site or other object, the reflection of which can be received by the endoscope and for the process. The second mode of the light source provides infrared excitation light and light in the blue and green wavelength spectra to an endoscope to transmit the light to an object such as a surgical site. The blue and green reflected light, as well as light from excitation markers, which is an infrared light at a different wavelength than the excitation infrared light, is received by the endoscope and further processed.

A coupler for connecting an endoscope to a camera including a cylinder having a zoom lens and a focus lens therein. A zoom adjustment member engages the cylinder with a first coefficient of friction and is movable relative thereto to cause axial movement of the zoom lens. The zoom adjustment member is operatively connected to a focus adjustment member such that movement of the zoom adjustment member causes the focus adjustment member to move thereby moving both the zoom lens and the focus lens axially. The focus adjustment member engages the zoom adjustment member with a second coefficient of friction and is movable relative thereto to cause axial movement of the focus lens within the cylinder. The first coefficient of friction is greater than the second coefficient of friction such that movement of the focus adjustment member does not cause movement of the zoom adjustment member.

Parfocal coupler for endoscopic viewing system

A control unit is connected to an endoscopic video camera, which is connected to an endoscope. Image data representing an image is received by the control unit from the video camera. Based on a characteristic of the received image which is indicative of a physical characteristic of the endoscope, the endoscope is recognized and/or and the value of a parameter for processing or display of images acquired by the camera is then automatically selected.

An autoclavable endoscopic optical coupler includes the capability to optically couple an endoscope and a camera, so that a focused image will be communicated to the camera head. Furthermore, the coupler has the capability of withstanding multiple autoclave sterilization treatments without allowing moisture to penetrate the interior. The coupler includes a lens holder assembly that has an endobody on one portion and a second portion that is inserted into and coupled to a coupler body. The coupler body has a camera attached at one of its ends. A focus ring is physically coupled to the coupler body, which is coupled to the lens holder assembly. Turning the focus ring causes a translation motion of the lens holder assembly and endoscope with respect to the camera head.
