A liquid crystal (LC) display panel including a lower substrate with pixel structures, an upper substrate, and an LC layer is provided. Each of the pixel structures includes a transistor and a pixel electrode. The pixel electrode includes first and second pixel electrodes insulated from each other, respectively including a first pattern and a second pattern that different and complementary to each other. Each of the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode has at least a trunk with a width smaller than or equal to 10 microns and a plurality of branches. The LC layer is positioned between the upper and the lower substrates and includes a plurality of LC molecules and a plurality of polymers, which are formed on surfaces of at least one of the upper and the lower substrates to cause the plurality of LC molecules to have a pretilt angle.

Liquid crystal displays and panels

In an embodiment of the invention, a liquid crystal display is provided. The liquid crystal display includes a first substrate, a first electrode formed on the first substrate, wherein the first electrode includes a plurality of subpixels, and each the subpixel includes a plurality of subunits, and each the subunit includes a plurality of first slits and a plurality of second slits, wherein the first slits are connected to the second slits and the first slits of the subunits which are adjacent to each other are connected to each other, a second substrate opposite to the first substrate, a second electrode formed on the second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode.

Liquid crystal displays

A thin film transistor (TFT) substrate includes a substrate, data lines, scan lines and pixel electrodes. The data lines and the scan lines intersect each other on the substrate for defining pixel areas. The pixel electrodes are disposed in corresponding pixel areas. Each of the pixel electrodes defines at least two slits by which the pixel electrode is divided into at least two first areas and at least two second areas. The first areas and the second areas are insulated with respect to each other. The first areas are disposed diagonally and the second areas are disposed diagonally.

Thin film transistor substrate and LCD panel

A pixel array substrate and a liquid crystal display are provided. The liquid crystal display includes the pixel array substrate, an opposite substrate and a liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the pixel array substrate and the opposite substrate. The pixel array substrate has plural pixel electrodes. Each pixel electrode has a first main portion, a second main portion, a plurality of first and second branches. The first main portion is substantially vertically connected to the second main portion and sequentially defines a first quadrant, a second quadrant, a third quadrant and a fourth quadrant. Each first branch is connected to the first main portion and/or the second main portion. The orientation angles of the first branches in the same quadrant are substantially identical. Each second branch is connected to a plurality of the first branches. Each quadrant has at least one of the second branches.

Pixel array substrate and liquid crystal display

A substrate with a multi-domain vertical alignment pixel structure is provided. The substrate is opposite to a counter substrate with a common electrode, and a liquid crystal layer is disposed between the substrate and the counter substrate. The substrate includes a scan line and a data line, an active device, first and second patterned pixel electrodes and a voltage drop layer. Wherein, the first patterned pixel electrode provides a first electrical field to the liquid crystal layer, and the second patterned pixel electrode provides a second electrical field to the liquid crystal layer. The voltage drop layer makes the first electrical field smaller than the second electrical field.

Substrate with multi-domain vertical alignment pixel structure and fabricating method thereof, liquid crystal display panel and liquid crystal display

A multi-domain LCD panel includes data lines, scan lines and pixels. Each pixel includes first and second sub-pixels respectively having first and second storage capacitors. A first data switch is selectively coupled to a first terminal of the first capacitor and one of the data lines. A second data switch is selectively coupled to a first terminal of the second capacitor and one of the data lines. First and second bias lines are respectively coupled to second terminals of the first and second capacitors. When a corresponding scan line is enabled, the first and second data switches turn on such that a signal on the data line is transmitted to the first and second sub-pixels. After the scan line is disabled, levels of the first and second bias lines are changed such that pixel voltages of the first and second sub-pixels differ from each other.

Liquid crystal display

In one embodiment of an invention concerning liquid crystal display devices, a first pixel electrode of a thin film transistor (TFT) array substrate may overlap a slit of a second pixel electrode of the TFT array substrate but not overlap another slit of the second pixel electrode. This may help induce a multi-domain electric field without having to precisely position a common electrode of a color filter substrate and the TFT array substrate. This may prevent position errors, enhance display quality, produce a wider viewing angle, and lower color shift sometimes associated with conventional liquid crystal display devices and methods.

Thin film transistor array for a liquid crystal display device and related manufacturing and operation methods

A liquid crystal display (LCD) device including a backlight module and an LCD panel is provided. The backlight module is used for providing light penetrating through the LCD panel disposed at one side of the backlight module. The LCD panel includes a substrate, a scan line, a first and a second data line, a first and a second switch element and a first and a second pixel electrode. The scan line and the two data lines, which are perpendicular to the scan line, are disposed on the substrate. The switch elements are respectively disposed at the intersection of the scan line and the first data line and the intersection of the scan line and the second data line. The pixel electrodes are respectively electrically connected to the switch elements. The area of the first pixel electrode is substantially less than that of the second one.

Transflective liquid crystal display panel and liquid crystal display device having the same

A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate, a second substrate and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate has a pixel electrode having many first slits and many second slits, connected to a third slit. Each first and second slit respectively stretches along a first and a second vector with a starting point in a junction with the third slit. Liquid crystal molecules near an alignment layer of the second substrate is aligned by the alignment layer to pre-tilt. Each projection of the long-axis of at least part of the pre-tilted liquid crystal molecules on the second substrate forms a third vector with a starting point at the end of the liquid crystal molecule near the alignment layer. An included angle between the first and the third vector is &#x3b8;, and an included angle between the second and the third vector is &#x3b8;. 90&#xb0;&#x3c;&#x3b8;&#x3c;160&#xb0;, and 90&#xb0;&#x3c;&#x3b8;&#x3c;160&#xb0;.

In one embodiment of the invention, a pixel unit has two sub-pixel regions each including a liquid crystal capacitor (LCC) and storage capacitor (SC). The capacitance ratio of the SC to LCC of the first sub-pixel differs from the capacitance ratio of the SC to LCC of the second sub-pixel.

Liquid crystal display panel, driving method and liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display and a substrate thereof are provided. The substrate of the liquid crystal display has a plurality of first pixel areas, second pixel areas, and third pixel areas. The substrate of the liquid crystal display has a plurality of first insulating films disposed on the first pixel areas, a plurality of second insulating films disposed on the second pixel areas, and a plurality of third insulating films disposed on the third pixel areas. The dielectric coefficient of the first insulating film is greater than the dielectric coefficient of the second insulating film, and the dielectric coefficient of the second insulating film is greater than the dielectric coefficient of the third insulating film.

Liquid crystal display and substrate thereof

A display has color pixels that can be controlled to show color images. Differences in electric fields in different color pixels having color filters with different dielectric constants can be compensated by providing electrodes with different patterns for the different color pixels. For example, the electrodes can have slits in which the widths of the slits can be different for pixels having different colors.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) panel and an LCD device using the same are provided. The LCD panel at least includes a first color pixel and a second color pixel for displaying different colors. The second color pixel is disposed next to the first color pixel.
