A method for a user equipment (UE) connected to a serving Radio Access Network (RAN) through a serving cell is provided. The serving RAN may include a Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN). The method receives, from the serving cell, satellite information regarding a coverage area of the serving RAN. After receiving the satellite information, the method determines, based on the satellite information, that the UE will be disconnected from the serving RAN by moving out of the coverage area of the serving RAN after a specific period of time. The method maintains an Access Stratum (AS) layer configuration of the UE without performing any task associated with an Idle mode of the UE while the UE is staying out of the coverage area of the serving RAN.

Implementing the idle mode while out of a RAN coverage area

Some present implementations provide a method for a user equipment (UE) connected to a non-terrestrial network (NTN). The method may receive, from a base station (BS) of the NTN at a downlink (DL) slot n, a timing advance (TA) command. The method may also adjust a timing of uplink (UL) transmissions to the BS according to the received TA command. The method may also include applying the adjusted timing for the UL transmissions by performing the UL transmissions from a beginning of a UL slot n+k+1+K. Kmay be a common delay broadcast by the BS to a plurality of UEs connected to the NTN including the UE, and k may be an additional delay specific to the UE.

MAC-CE command action timing control in non-terrestrial networks

A method and a user equipment (UE) for performing timing alignment is provided. The method includes receiving, from a Base Station (BS), a Timing Advance (TA) report configuration in System Information (SI); and transmitting, to the BS, a TA report based on the TA report configuration. The TA report configuration includes an indication for enabling or disabling the UE to transmit the TA report.

A method for a user equipment (UE) in a non-terrestrial network (NTN) is provided. The method receives, from a base station (BS), an indication associated with a UE-specific timing advance (TA) report. The indication includes a value. The method initiates a random access (RA) procedure. The method then determines whether to transmit the UE-specific TA report based on the value of the indication. If the method determines that the value enables transmission of the UE-specific TA report, the method transmits, to the BS, the UE-specific TA report through the RA procedure.
