A device for correcting spinal deformities by attachment to portions of the spine of a patient has an elongated rod with a smooth outer peripheral surface, hook members each of which is formed with a hook-like engagement member on one end and a retaining portion through which the elongated rod is loosely inserted, and wedge-like members each in the form of a cylinder with a slit which is provided with a flange on one end. After the elongated rod is loosely inserted into the retaining portions of said hook members with a predetermined play, the wedge-like members mounted on the elongated rod are forcibly inserted into interstices formed between the loosely fitted rod and hook members, to thereby firmly fix the hook members with the elongated rod.

A vulcanized molded article comprising a blend of about 5-90% by weight of a thermoplastic copolyester or block copolyester elastomer and about 95-10% by weight of a vulcanizable synthetic or natural rubber having an improved adhesive property with polyester fibers or fabrics.

Vulcanized elastomeric molded article

A golf ball having an intermediate layer of thermoplastic resin between a thread-wound central core and an outer polyester elastomer layer. The thermoplastic resin has a substantial melt flow initiation temperature of 160.degree. C. or less, the substantial melt flow initiation temperature being the minimum temperature at which the melt index under a load of 4350 g. becomes 1 g/10 mins or more, and has a high adhesion property to the polyester elastomer cover. It is preferable that the thermoplastic resin have a resilience of 30% or more and that the intermediate layer of thermoplastic resin be within the range of 0.1 to 1.0 mm. This golf ball has excellent cutting resistance, 'click' characteristics and impact resilience.

An improved golf ball having a thread-wound central core and an outer cover is provided. The outer cover is composed of a composition comprising (a) at least one ionomer which is a copolymer of at least one .alpha.-olefin and at least one .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid to which copolymer at least one metal ion selected from the group consisting of monovalent, divalent and trivalent metal ions is added and (b) at least one polyester elastomer, the content, in said composition, of said polyester elastomer being 50% by weight or less. This golf ball has excellent cutting resistance, 'click' characteristics and impact resilience.

An improved shaped article can be prepared from a blockcopolyetherester by (a) mixing the same with poly(butylene terephthalate) at a temperature of about 200.degree. to about 230.degree. C. whereby fine fragments of poly(butylene terephthalate) which maintains its own crystalline phase are dispersed in the matrix of the blockcopolyetherester, and (b) molding the mixture at a temperature below the melting point of the poly (butylene terephthalate). The addition of an ester wax and/or a calcium soap improves the extrusion-moldability of the mixture.

Elastomeric shaped article and method for preparing the same

A golf ball having a thread-wound core and a cover formed of a block copolyetherester comprising (A) a terephthalic acid unit, (B) a 1,4-butanediol unit, (C) a unit of a dicarboxylic acid, other than terephthalic acid, or a short-chain diol, other than 1,4-butanediol, having a number-average molecular weight of not more than 300 and (D) a poly(alkylene oxide)glycol unit having a number-average molecular weight of from 500 to 3000. Said golf ball exhibits excellent impact resilience and also exhibits good cutting resistance and 'click'.

An intimate polyblend of about 5-90% by weight of a thermoplastic copolyester or block copolyester elastomer and about 95-10% by weight of a vulcanizable synthetic or natural rubber. The preferred copolyester is a copolyester of polybutylene terephthalate and the prefered block copolyetherester is polybutylene terophthalate-poly (tetramethylene oxide) glycol block copolyester. These polyblends can be vulcanized to elastomeric molded articles which exhibit an excellent oil and oxygen/ozone resistance even at elevated temperatures, a high impact strength, an increased scuff resistance and an improved flexibility at low and high temperatures. The vulcanized molded articles also have an improved adhesive property with polyester fibers or fabrics.

Vulcanizable polyblend

A polyetherester block copolymer having enhanced compatibility of soft polyether segments with hard polyester segments thereof, excellent mechanical strength, a proper melt fluidity and enhanced resistance to chemicals, heat and light, which copolymer comprises (1) 50 to 95% by weight of polyester segments comprising a dicarboxylic acid component containing at least 50 molar percent of terephthalic acid and a diol component containing at least 50 molar percent of 1,4-butane diol and (2) 5 to 50% by weight of polyether segments comprising poly(tetramethylene oxide)glycol, which is characterized by a large number average molecular weight of from 1,500 to 2,500 and by a small variance of less than 1.70 in molecular weight distribution.

Polyetherester block copolymer and process for producing the same

Disclosed is a blockcopolyetherester composition stabilized by the incorporation of a polysulfide polymer. Products prepared from this composition exhibit an excellent thermal stability as well as UV-light resistance.
