This invention relates to a polyalpha-olefin (and hydrogenated analogs thereof) comprising more than 50 mole % of one or more C5 to C24 alpha-olefin monomers where the polyalpha-olefin has: a) 40 mole % or more of mm triads, b) a Bromine number of Y or greater, where Y is equal to 89.92*(V)'&#xb0;5863, where V is the Kinematic Viscosity of the polyalpha-olefin measured at 100&#xb0; C. in cSt, and c) 1,2 disubstituted olefins present at 7 mole % or more, preferably having Z mole % or more of units represented by the formula: where j, k and m are each, independently, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, or 22, n is an integer from 1 to 350, and where Z=8.420*Log(V)&#x2212;4.048, where V is the kinematic viscosity of the polyalpha-olefin measured at 1000 C in cSt This invention also relates to process to produce such polyalpha-olefins. 

Polyalpha-olefin compositions and processes to produce the same

This invention is directed to processes of making polymer in the presence of a hydrofluorocarbon or perfluorocarbon and recovering the polymer. The processes provided enable polymerization processes to be practiced with minimal fouling in the reaction system, and to the recovery of the hydrofluorocarbon and other hydrocarbons such as hydrocarbons for reuse in the process or hydrocarbon by-products from the polymerization process. The invention is particularly beneficial in the production of ethylene based polymers using Ziegler Natta catalyst systems.

Polymerization process

This invention is directed to processes of making polymer in the presence of a hydrofluorocarbon or perfluorocarbon and recovering the polymer. The processes provided enable polymerization processes to be practiced with minimal fouling in the reaction system, and to the recovery of the hydrofluorocarbon and other hydrocarbons such as hydrocarbons for reuse in the process or hydrocarbon by-products from the polymerization process. The invention is particularly beneficial in the production of ethylene based polymers using bulky ligand metallocene-type catalyst systems.

Halogenated isobutylene-p-methylstyrene polymers are stabilized against discoloration with a weak base such as 100 to 500 ppm sodium bicarbonate. The additive is added to the rubbery polymers after dewatering in the finishing step of their manufacture. The curability of the stabilized rubbers is not adversely affected by the sodium bicarbonate additive.

Stabilization of halogenated rubber

A process for catalytic recovery in a phase transfer process wherein heterogeneous reactions in a liquid-liquid two phase reaction systems using a phase transfer catalyst is improved by separating the two liquid phases with a membrane which retains the catalyst while passing the aqueous polar liquid thereby allowing easy recovery of the phase transfer catalyst. The reaction is carried out between reactants selectively soluble in the different phases, one of the reactants being transferred into the other phase by means of a phase transfer catalyst which is soluble in said polar liquid phase with the one reactant. The phases are separated after completion of the reactions by adding water to the two-phase reaction system to dissolve out the polar liquid phase containing the phase transfer catalyst into an aqueous phase. Further, the phase transfer catalyst is separated from the polar liquid phase by passing the aqueous polar liquid phase through a membrane that retains the transfer catalyst while passing the polar liquid.
