A circuit assembly for a power converter includes a substrate, power stage integrated circuit (IC) dies, and output inductors that connect switch nodes of the power stage IC dies to an output node of the power converter. The power stage IC dies are mounted on one side of the substrate and the output inductors are mounted on an opposing side of the substrate. Two output inductors go through a magnetic core. A heatsink is attached to surfaces of the power stage IC dies. A power stage IC die has a pair of switching transistors, and a switch node formed by the switching transistors is connected by an output inductor to the output node of the power converter.

Symmetrical power stages for high power integrated circuits

A circuit assembly for a power converter includes power stage blocks and heat-dissipating substrate. A power stage block includes a power stage IC die, an output inductor that is connected to a switch node of the power stage IC die, and capacitors that form an output capacitor of the power stage block. The output capacitors of the power stage blocks are symmetrically arranged. The output inductors can be placed on the same side of the substrate as the power stage IC dies, or on a side of the substrate that is opposite to the side where the power stage IC dies are disposed. A power stage block may generate two output phases of the power converter.

A power stage block includes a power stage IC die, an output inductor that is connected to a switch node of the power stage IC die, and capacitors that form an output capacitor of the power stage block. The output capacitors of the power stage blocks are symmetrically arranged. A control method used in a constant on-time switching converter includes: judging whether the switching converter enters into an ultrasonic mode; turning ON the low-side switch to discharge the output capacitor when the switching converter enters into the ultrasonic mode; generating an additional slope compensation signal during the discharge of the output capacitor; comparing a feedback signal indicative of the output voltage of the switching circuit with the sum of a reference voltage and the additional slope compensation signal; turning OFF the low-side switch and turning ON the high-side switch when the feedback signal decreases to reach the sum of the reference voltage and the additional slope compensation signal.

Constant on-time switching converters with ultrasonic mode determination circuit and control methods thereof

The present technology is related generally to a switching mode power supply with virtual current sensing. The switching mode power supply comprises a power stage that includes a first power switch and a second power switch coupled in series. The switching mode power supply senses a first current flowing through the first power switch during on-time and provides a virtual current sense signal that is proportional to a second current flowing through the second power switch during on-time. The switching mode power supply further combines the real current sense signal and the virtual current sense signal to form a current sense signal, which is sent to the controller to realize desired control.

Switching mode power supply with virtual current sensing and associated methods

The present technology discloses a switching mode power supply with predicted PWM control. In one embodiment, the switching mode power supply monitors the slew rate of COMP signal which represents the output voltage of the switching mode power supply. When the load steps up, the ON state of the power stage is prolonged; when the load steps down, the power stage is turned off earlier.
