A pharmaceutical composition includes a plurality of metal nanoparticles and at least one therapeutic agent. Each of the metal nanoparticles includes a core and a stabilizing agent coated on a surface of the core. The at least one therapeutic agent is attached to the stabilizing agent of the metal nanoparticles. Each of the therapeutic agent is an amphiphilic compound and has at least one hydrophobic chain interacting with the stabilizing agent. The pharmaceutical composition may further include a polymer shell encapsulating the metal nanoparticles and the therapeutic agent for enabling controlled release of the therapeutic agent. The pharmaceutical compositions are bifunctional and may be used for diagnosing and treating cancer. Methods for using the pharmaceutical compositions in conjunction with radiation therapy to diagnose and treat cancer are also provided.

Pharmaceutical composition and methods for using the same

Nanoparticles are used as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. Each of the nanoparticles includes a metal alloy core and a plurality of hydrophilic molecules covalently bound to the surface of the metal alloy core. Also disclosed is a method for using the contrast agent.

Method of using CT/MRI dual modality contrast agent

The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for elevating radiation-sensitivity of cancer cells, which comprises: a nanoparticle containing with a first element, which is iron, copper, or the combination thereof; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the nanoparticle is a metal nanoparticle, an alloy nanoparticle, or a metal nanoparticle with core-shell structure, and the size of the nanoparticle is under a controllable range of 3 nm to 150 nm. In addition, the present invention provides a detection method to detect radiation-sensitivity of the cancer cells through different modalities such as CT or MRI due to its native high CT number and magnetic property. Furthermore, the present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for elevating radiation-sensitivity of the cancer cells through preferential uptake of the nanoparticle, in order to enhance the radiation-sensitivity of the cancer cells and improve the efficiency of radiation therapy to the cancer cells.

The present invention discloses a method for transferring a graphene layer. The graphene layer formed on a metal carrier layer is electrostatically adsorbed on a substrate by electrostatic charges, and then the substrate having the graphene layer formed on the metal carrier layer is immersed in an etching solution to remove the metal carrier layer, thereby completing the transfer of the graphene layer. In addition to being able to provide a simple method for transferring the graphene layer, the present invention further solves a problem of retaining organic residues, thus enhancing electrical properties of the transferred graphene layer.

The present invention provides carbohydrate encapsulated nanoparticles. In particular, the present invention provides metallic nanoparticles (e.g. gold nanoparticles) that are encapsulated in biologically important carbohydrate molecules, such as sugars, sugar derivatives, P-blood group antigens and analogues thereof. The present invention also provides methods of employing these carbohydrate encapsulated nanoparticles in diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
