The present invention discloses a 2D/3D switchable liquid crystal lens assembly. The liquid crystal lens assembly from an emitting surface to an incident surface sequentially includes a plurality of adjacently arranged elongated convex lenses, a first transparent substrate, a second transparent substrate, a plurality of electrodes disposed on the second transparent substrate, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second transparent substrates. The plurality of electrodes are used for controlling an alignment of liquid crystal molecules inside the liquid crystal layer so as to adjust a refractive index of the liquid crystal molecules inside the liquid crystal layer corresponding to at least one pixel. The refractive index progressively increase or progressively decrease from a center toward both sides to control a propagation direction of incident light and guide the passed incident light to one of the convex lenses.

Two dimension/three dimension switchable liquid crystal lens assembly

The present invention provides a composite phase retarder and an organic light emitting display apparatus using the same. The organic light emitting display apparatus comprises an organic light emitting display panel and the composite phase retarder. The composite phase retarder comprises a quarter wave (&#x3bb;/4) phase retarder, a polarizer and a pattern retarder stacked in sequence. The present invention can be applicable to display 3D images and enhance a display contrast of the organic light emitting display apparatus.

Composite phase retarder and organic light emitting display apparatus using the same

A naked-eye 3D display device has a display panel and a liquid crystal lens. The liquid crystal lens is mounted on the display panel and correspondingly overlapped with a pixel array of the display panel and has a first electrode, a second electrode and a liquid crystal layer between the first and the second electrodes. The second electrode has separated electrode units. Each electrode unit is in a strip shape and extends obliquely in a stair-shaped manner along a vertical direction in which pixels are arranged. The adjacent two of the electrode units receive different electric voltages to form a specific electric field with the first electrode to change an arrangement direction of liquid crystal molecules at a corresponding position in the liquid crystal layer. The structure of the liquid crystal lens effectively improves image crosstalk between left-eye and right-eye images.

Naked-eye 3D display device and liquid crystal lens thereof

The present invention provides a display panel and a 3D display device. The display panel comprising: a first substrate comprising multiple data lines, multiple scan lines, and multiple pixel units, wherein the pixel unit comprising three sub-pixel units, and each of the sub-pixel units electrically connects to the same data line sequentially, and each of the sub-pixel units electrically connects to the corresponding scan line, and the scan line corresponding to at least one of the sub-pixel unit and the scan line corresponding to the first sub-pixel unit of the adjacent next pixel unit are disposed side by side; and a second substrate disposed correspondingly to the first substrate and comprising a first black matrix disposed correspondingly to the scan lines. In the present invention, the scan lines corresponding to the multiple sub-pixels are disposed side by side such that increasing the width of the first black matrix between adjacent pixel units and vertical viewing angle and do not reduce the aperture ratio.

A 2D/3D image switching type liquid crystal display is described. The 2D/3D image switching type liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal display (LCD), a film-type patterned retarder (FPR) and a liquid crystal barrier layer. When either the FPR is disposed between the LCD panel and the liquid crystal barrier layer or liquid crystal barrier layer is disposed between the LCD panel and the backlight module, an electrical field controls the first grating regions and the second grating regions to form a bright region and a dark region for adjusting the left-hand circularly polarized light and the right-hand circularly polarized light from the FPR to switch 2D/3D image by switching the liquid crystal barrier layer.

The present invention discloses an electro-phoretic display and display method thereof. The method comprises: To form a first electric field so that reflective particles in electro-phoretic layer in an area corresponding to a color resist for display have a first distance from the color substrate. Light incident to the reflective particles partly or completely emerges from the electro-phoretic layer after being reflected by them when the distance is the first distance. To form at least one second electric field in an area corresponding to color resists not for display so that the reflective particles in the electro-phoretic layer in that area have a second distance from the color substrate. Light incident into the electro-phoretic layer is absorbed by the light absorbing liquid when the distance is the second distance. The color resist for display is the one used for displaying a color intended to be displayed by the electro-phoretic display.

Electro-phoretic display and display method thereof

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display panel, a liquid crystal display apparatus and a 3D image system. The liquid crystal display panel comprises a patterned retarder and a shading film. The shading film includes a plurality of transparent units and a plurality of shading units arranged in an alternating manner, and the shading units are positioned between the first phase retarders and the second phase retarders, respectively. When the offset of the first phase retarders or the second phase retarders occurs, the shading unit can shade the deviated light rays.

Liquid crystal display panel and liquid crystal display apparatus and 3D image system

The present invention provides a three-dimensional (3D) display apparatus and a 3D system. The system comprises the 3D display apparatus and polarizer glasses. The 3D display apparatus comprises a display panel and a pattern retarder film. Retarder rows of the pattern retarder film are positioned to pixel row pairs of the display panel, respectively. The present invention can mitigate the image crosstalk problem exiting in the conventional 3D display.

3D display apparatus and 3D display system

The present invention discloses a 3D display device adopting a half-source driving structure. The 3D display device includes a liquid crystal display panel. Gate lines and data lines of the liquid crystal panel are crossed with each other and define multiple pixel regions. Each gate line is bent to have a plurality of arched portions that each arched portion corresponds in position to one pixel region and forms an accommodating area. A switching element in each one of the pixel regions is mounted in the corresponding accommodating area and connected to a pixel electrode. Because the accommodating areas formed by the gate lines can accommodate switching elements, light-exiting positions of the pixel electrodes in adjacent pixel regions can be in line with each other to avoid a color washout problem when the phase retarder film is mounted with a positional error.

3D display device adopting half-source driving structure

A polarizer film is used for converting polarized light from a backlight module into light along a first direction. Multiple electrodes are disposed on a transparent substrate. Each electrode extends along a second direction different from the first direction. An alignment of liquid crystal molecules varies according to voltage applied on the electrodes. A retard unit is disposed between the transparent substrate and the polarizer film and used for converting the polarized light into light along a third direction different from the first and second direction. A polarization direction of the emitted light is perpendicular to an alignment of an electrode layer. In this way, an optical axis of the liquid crystal molecules matches the polarization direction of the light from the retard unit when voltage is not applied. So, the maximal lens power is attained with decreasing the cost resulted from the decreased thickness of the liquid crystal layer.

Liquid crystal lens unit and stereoscopic display

Disclosed are a 3D image system and 3D glasses. The 3D image system includes a liquid crystal display monitor and the 3D glasses. The liquid crystal display monitor includes a backlight module and a &#xbd;&#x3bb; wave plate. The &#xbd;&#x3bb; wave plate converts lights from by the backlight module into linear polarized lights. The 3D glasses includes a first &#xbc;&#x3bb; wave plate for receiving and converting the linear polarized lights from the &#xbd;&#x3bb; wave plate into circular polarized lights, a second &#xbc;&#x3bb; wave plate for converting the circular polarized lights from the first &#xbc;&#x3bb; wave plate into linear polarized lights, and a second &#xbc;&#x3bb; wave plate for filtering the linear polarized lights from the second &#xbc;&#x3bb; wave plate and transmitting the filtered lights to left and right eyes correspondingly. The present invention saves the cost and decreases the maintaining expense.

3D image system and 3D glasses

A stereoscopic image display apparatus is described. The stereoscopic image display apparatus includes a display panel, a film-type patterned retarder (FPR) and a barrier layer. The display panel comprises a plurality of scan lines, first data lines, second data lines and pixel units. Each of pixel units comprises a major pixel, a first minor pixel and a second minor pixel wherein the major pixel is coupled to one of the scan lines and one of the first data lines via a first thin-film-transistor, and the first minor pixel and the second minor pixel are coupled to the one of the scan lines and one of the second data lines via a second thin-film-transistor. The FPR is disposed between the display panel and the polarized glasses for receiving the light from the display panel to allow the light to form left-handed circularly polarized light and right-handed circularly polarized light.

Stereoscopic image display apparatus

A three-dimensional image display apparatus is described. The three-dimensional image display apparatus includes a display panel and a film-type patterned retarder. The three-dimensional image display apparatus allows the phase retarding regions of the film-type patterned retarder to be deviated from the pixel regions of the display panel so that the line of vision the viewer along the extension of the phase retarding direction corresponds to the pixel regions of the display panel. In other words, the phase retarding regions of the film-type patterned retarder deviate from the pixel of the display panel to avoid the image crosstalk when the viewer looks on the three-dimensional image display apparatus.

Three-dimensional image display apparatus

An auto-stereoscopic display device is proposed. The auto-stereoscopic display device includes a display panel and a liquid crystal lens. The liquid crystal lens includes a first electrode layer and a second electrode layer. The first electrode layer includes a plurality of first electrode stripes arranged in parallel along pixel units and extending in a first or second direction. The second electrode layer includes a plurality of second electrode stripes extending slantingly relative to the plurality of first electrode stripes and being arranged in parallel. A liquid crystal lens and a driving method thereof are also proposed. Based on the present invention, a first lenticular lens unit is generated and arranged along the plurality of second electrode stripes for the 3D display mode, and a second lenticular lens unit is generated and arranged along the plurality of first electrode stripes for the 2D display mode. The invention can fulfill the 3D-mode requirement and enhance brightness and luminance in the 2D mode.
