A bowl assemblyincludes a first bowl, a second bowl, and a third bowl. The first bowlhas the largest inner diameter of the three. The second bowlhas an outer diameter which is less than the inner diameter of the first bowl. The third bowlhas an outer diameter which is less than the inner diameter of the second bowl. Each bowl has at least one frictional detent mechanism to engage the adjacently placed bowl.

A filter assembly has an annular outer wall with a channel for receiving a layer of adhesive and a center ring within the outer wall. A filter media having a plurality of pleats in a closed loop is bonded with adhesive to the outer wall. The assembly is made by rotating the outer wall in a jig and applying a layer of adhesive within the channel. The filter media is positioning the within the outer wall, rotated and allowed to move along a radial path until its outer perimeter contacts the adhesive coated outer wall inner perimeter. The ring is positioned adjacent the filter media inner perimeter.

A coffee maker includes a water reservoir, an in-line water heater, a brew basket for receiving coffee grinds, and a water passage between the reservoir and the brew basket. The passage passes through the in-line water heater for delivering heated water to the brew basket. A a bi-directional valve disposed in the water passage between the water reservoir and the in-line water heater to permit substantially unrestricted flow in a first direction and restricted flow in a second direction. A controller can be provided for altering the valve between an unrestricted bi-directional mode and a unidirectional mode.

Coffee maker

An electric automatic pop-up toaster has a carriage and a pivotably connected manually operative arm for moving the carriage to a lowermost position for toasting in well-known manner. At the beginning of each toasting cycle, the arm is horizontal and a latching plate is magnetically held down to hold the arm and the carriage in a lowermost position. The arm presses against a wire spring to hold closed a power switch (not shown) that supplies power to heating elements of the toaster. The latching plate is (magnetically) released at the end of each toasting cycle by a timer. This allows the carriage to move upwards to pop-up toasted bread in a usual way. However should the carriage fail to move upwards when the latching plate is released, the arm is pivoted by a spring and tilted to the position shown in the Figure. The wire is therefore released and enters a slot in a bracket mounted to the carriage. The switch opens and remains open to prevent power being re-instated to the heating elements. Even if the arm is thereafter pushed down, the switch cannot be closed because no downward pressure can be applied to the spring until the carriage has moved upwards beyond an intermediate position.
