A radiator for terahertz electromagnetic radiation includes one or more radiator units. Each of the one or more radiator units respectively includes: an oscillator arrangement operable to generate third harmonic power, and a patch antenna arrangement operably coupled with the oscillator arrangement for radiating terahertz electromagnetic radiation based on the generated third harmonic power.

Radiator for terahertz electromagnetic radiation

A metasurface structure for an antenna. The metasurface structure includes multiple subwavelength units operable to manipulate or control amplitude, phase, polarization, frequency, and momentum of electromagnetic waves for radiation. The metasurface structure may be operably coupled with a waveguide to provide a metasurface antenna. The metasurface structure or the metasurface antenna may be operably coupled with a controller arranged to control it.

Metasurface antenna and metasurface structure for antenna

An antenna includes, at least, a metasurface structure assembly and a feed. The feed is coupled with the metasurface structure assembly and is operable to provide a first type of electromagnetic radiation with a first radiation property to the metasurface structure assembly. The metasurface structure assembly is operable to receive the first type of electromagnetic radiation from the feed and to convert the first type of electromagnetic radiation into a second type of electromagnetic radiation and then back to the first type of electromagnetic radiation with a second radiation property for radiation from the metasurface structure assembly. The first radiation property and the second radiation property are different.

Antenna and metasurface structure for antenna

A radiator for terahertz electromagnetic radiation. The radiator includes one or more radiator units. Each radiator unit includes an oscillator operable to generate second harmonic power, and a patch antenna operably coupled with the oscillator for radiating terahertz electromagnetic radiation based on the generated second harmonic power.

An antenna includes, from top to bottom and bonded together, an upper substrate, a bonding film, a ground plane and a lower substrate. A parasitic patch arrangement and two pairs of radiator arms associated therewith are arranged on an upper surface of the upper substrate. One radiator arm pair are responsive to a differential signal received through respective vias, which extend through the upper substrate, and respective feed lines, which are arranged on a lower surface of the upper substrate, to emit a first radio frequency signal. The other radiator arm pair are responsive to another differential signal received through respective vias, which extend through the substrates, and respective feed lines, which are arranged on a lower surface of the lower substrate, to emit a second radio frequency signal orthogonal to the first radio frequency signal. A gap between one radiator arm pair intersects that between the other pair.

Dual-polarized antenna and dual-polarized array antenna

The present invention relates to a novel lens antenna with a 3D near-field focus-steering capability that operates at gigahertz and terahertz frequencies. The novel antenna includes a pair of discrete dielectric lenses fed by a stationary horn source. In-plane synchronous counter-rotation and co-rotation of the lens pair steers its near-field focus radially and azimuthally, respectively, while linear translation of the upper lens moves the focal point longitudinally. The steering focus beam enables fast imaging. In imaging applications, the radiated beam from the novel lens antenna focused in the target area can reduce undesired interference from neighboring structures and increase the system dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio.

3-D focus-steering lens antenna

A self-filtering, space-time coding, waveguide-driven metasurface antenna includes at least first and second metal layers, and first dielectric layer between the first and second metal layers. A series of vias is formed in the first dielectric layer. A substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is formed from the first and second metal layers and from the metal vias in the first dielectric layer. A series of meta-atoms is formed in the first metal layer, each meta-atom including a slot cooperating with two switching elements for switching the meta-atom between an on and off state. Each meta-atom behaves as a magnetic dipole antenna element that radiates electromagnetic waves into free space. In this manner, the propagating guided waves inside the substrate integrated waveguide are converted and molded into arbitrary selected out-of-plane free-space waves in both a frequency domain and a momentum domain.

Sideband-free space-time-coding metasurface antennas

An on-chip antenna comprising an electrically insulating substrate having first and second faces; a metal layer arranged on the second face; and, a dipole antenna structure arranged on the first face, the dipole antenna structure comprising a dipole antenna and a feed structure connected to the dipole antenna; the on-chip antenna being configured such that when the feed structure is fed with an electrical signal it operates simultaneously in (i) at least one dielectric resonator mode to function as a dielectric resonance antenna, and (ii) at least one dipole mode to function as a cavity backed dipole antenna.

On-chip antenna and on-chip antenna array

The present invention provides wideband millimeter-wave SIW-fed FPC filtering antenna comprising a partially reflecting surface (PRS) and a filtering source configured to radiate a millimeter-wavelength electromagnetic wave. The filtering source comprises a conductive reflecting plane configured to work with the PRS to form a Fabry-Perot cavity; radiating elements including a pair of shorted radiating patches electrically connected to a ground plane through a pair of probes; and a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) feeding structure coupled to the pair of radiating patches through a coupling aperture. The SIW-fed FPC filtering antenna has the advantages of wider bandwidth, higher directivity/gain, reduced structural complexity, compact size and appropriate feeding type for millimeter-wave applications.

Substrate integrated waveguide-fed Fabry-Perot cavity filtering wideband millimeter wave antenna

A guided-wave-driven metasurface antenna includes an input for receiving a guided wave; an output for outputting a free-space wave; and a spatial frequency mixer connected between the input and the output for converting the guided wave to the free-space wave. The spatial frequency mixer is implemented by a metasurface of the antenna. The superheterodyne metasurface can be fabricated with high accuracy using lithography step similar to conventional waveguides made by the well-established semiconductor processing technology, making their integration with PICs straightforward.

Guided-wave-driven metasurface antennas

A device for signal generation including a unit cell. The unit cell contains two oscillators that are coupled in phase. Each oscillator operates at a fundamental frequency. Each oscillator further includes a slot structure, and the slot structures serve as, at a third harmonic of the fundamental frequency, a slot antenna radiating a third harmonic power. If the device contains multiple unit cell, then each unit cell is horizontally coupled out-of-phase and vertically in-phase with adjacent cells at the fundamental frequency in the device. Therefore, coherent radiation and power combining are achieved at the third harmonic.

Two-dimensional scalable radiator array

A leaky-wave antenna includes a substrate extending along an axis, and a dielectric waveguide extending along the axis and arranged in the substrate. The dielectric waveguide includes at least a top side, a bottom side, and opposite sides arranged between the top and bottom sides. A distance defined between the opposite sides varies along the axis for at least part of a length of the dielectric waveguide.

Leaky-wave antenna

The present invention provides a self-filtering millimeter-wave wideband multilayer planar antenna. The antenna includes a first layer having a slot feed. A second layer includes at least a pair of probes fed by the slot feed from the first layer. A third layer includes at least two substantially planar radiating patches each patch respectively coupled to one of the probes on the second layer. The radiating patches are arranged to radiate a millimeter-wavelength electromagnetic wave when the slot feed receives excitation energy and transmits the energy to the radiating patch through the respective probe. The self-filtering antenna does not require a resonant cavity structure coupled to the radiating patches. Antenna arrays of arbitrary numbers of antenna elements may be constructed from the self-filtering antenna. Such arrays are particularly suitable for 5G mm-wave backhaul communications.

Self-filtering wideband millimeter wave antenna

A substrate integrated waveguide fed antenna includes an electric dipole arrangement, a parasitic patch arrangement operably coupled with the electric dipole arrangement, and a feed structure. The feed structure includes a substrate integrated waveguide operably coupled with the electric dipole arrangement for exciting the electric dipole arrangement. A slotted conductive surface with a slot is arranged between the electric dipole arrangement and the feed structure for operably coupling the feed structure with the electric dipole arrangement.

Substrate integrated waveguide fed antenna

An oscillator circuit includes a core stage having a voltage controlled oscillator arranged to output an output oscillation signal, and an input stage coupled to the output stage via an induction coupling, and arranged to receive an input oscillation signal; wherein the output oscillation signal includes an output oscillation frequency substantially equals to a multiplication of an input oscillation frequency of the input oscillation signal.
