The present disclosure is drawn to displays for electronic devices. In one example, the display includes a light emitting layer with an organic light emitting element. A porous substrate can be attached to the light emitting layer, wherein the porous substrate is flexible and spreads heat generated by the light emitting layer. A cover layer can be attached to a surface of the porous substrate opposite the light emitting layer.

Heat spreading substrate for a display

The present disclosure is drawn to housings for electronic devices. In one example, a housing for an electronic device can include a rigid substrate having an exterior surface including a recessed region positioned at an opening extending through the rigid substrate connecting the recessed region to an interior surface of the rigid substrate. A conductive metal antenna is conformally carried by the recessed region and positioned at the opening.

The present disclosure describes thermal management devices. In one example, a thermal management device can include a processing unit, a thermal grease layer directly contacting the processing unit, and a heat pipe. The heat pipe can include a heat pipe interior volume having a working fluid disposed therein, a first exterior surface directly contacting the thermal grease layer, a second exterior surface opposite from the first exterior surface, and side exterior surfaces connecting the first exterior surface and the second exterior surface. The thermal management device can also include a device cover spaced from the second exterior surface of the heat pipe by a distance from greater than 1 mm to about 5 mm, and a bracket having a clamping portion that holds the heat pipe by the side exterior surfaces of the heat pipe. The clamping portion does not extend past the first exterior surface of the heat pipe.

An example dual plate Organic Light-Emitting Field-Effect Transistor (OLET) display device includes a first plate device having a first substrate; a gate layer adjacent to the first substrate; and a dielectric layer adjacent to the gate layer. A second plate device is connected to the first plate device. The second plate device includes a second substrate; a source/drain layer adjacent to the second substrate; and a stacked active organic layer adjacent to the source/drain layer. The first plate device and the second plate device are to be independently fabricated and joined together to position the stacked active organic layer adjacent to the dielectric layer.

A coated metal alloy substrate with at least one chamfered edge, a process for producing a coating a metal alloy substrate, and an electronic device having a housing comprising a coated metal alloy substrate are described. The coated metal alloy substrate with at least one chamfered edge comprises a hydrophobic anti-fingerprint layer deposited on the metal alloy substrate, a passivation layer deposited on the at least one chamfered edge, and a water based paint layer deposited on the passivation layer.

An electronic device can include a first electronic component, a second electronic component, and an energy dampener positioned between and in contact with the first electronic component and the second electronic component. The energy dampener in this example includes a carbon nanotube-aerogel matrix including carbon nanotubes embedded in an aerogel with a rubber composited therewith.

In example implementations, an enclosure is provided. The enclosure includes a first layer of carbon fiber and a second layer of a carbon fiber pattern fabricated from a plastic. The first layer of carbon fiber is formed in a shape of a portable electronic device. An antenna window is formed in the first layer of the carbon fiber. The second layer of the carbon fiber pattern has a same shape and a same size as the first layer of carbon fiber.

In an example, a switchable display may include a movable pixel unit having a rotatable motive element. The movable pixel unit may further include a first display unit having a first display characteristic and disposed on a first side of the rotatable motive element. The movable pixel unit may further include a second display unit having a second display characteristic and disposed on a second side of the rotatable motive unit, different from the first side.

An example device includes a light source, a liquid crystal layer, and an array of pixel electrodes disposed between the light source and the liquid crystal layer. The array of pixel electrodes is to control orientation of liquid crystal of the liquid crystal layer to modulate light incident from the light source to produce an image composed of pixels. The example device further includes an array of scattering electrodes to selectively influence orientation of liquid crystal of the liquid crystal layer to degrade contrast of selected pixels of the image.

In example implementations, a display is provided. The display includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion includes a first plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) that emit light in a first direction. The second portion includes a combination of the first plurality of LEDs that emit light in the first direction and a second plurality of LEDs that emit light in a second direction that is opposite the first direction to form a dual-sided display.

In one example in accordance with the present disclosure, a screen privacy device is described. The screen privacy device includes first bands of a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) compound. These first bands have first light-scattering properties. The screen privacy device also includes second bands of the PDLC compound, the second bands having second light-scattering properties. In this example, the second light-scattering properties are different than the first light-scattering properties and the first bands and the second bands alternate along a dimension of the screen privacy device.

The present subject matter relates to fabrication of micro-arc oxidation (MAO) based insert-molded components. In an example implementation, a method of fabricating a MAO based insert-molded component comprises forming an insert-molded component and oxidizing the insert-molded component through MAO. The insert-molded component has a metal body molded with a plastic body. On oxidation of the insert-molded component through MAO an oxide layer is formed on the metal body.

One example provides a method of manufacturing. The method comprises printing multiple layers comprising a metal material by an additive manufacturing technique, wherein each of the multiple layers comprises an array of cavities each having a cross-section of a polygon; and assembling at least two of the multiple layers to form an article having an array of three-dimensional hollow cells collectively having a honeycomb structure.

According to one example, a ceramic housing for an electronic device includes a surface and an elastomer, where the elastomer covers from ten percent to eighty-five percent of a total surface area of the surface.

A computer system including telephone functionality. The computer system includes a first keyboard and a first display. The computer system also includes a processor having at least a first functional unit and a second functional unit, and further includes a phone portion. The computer system may operate in a first mode, a second mode, or a third mode. In the first mode, only the phone portion is activated, and the phone portion provides a functionality of placing and receiving phone calls without being removed from the computer system. In the second mode, the phone portion and first functional unit of the processor are activated. In the third mode, each of the phone portion, the first functional unit, and the second functional unit are activated.
