A multi-view autostereoscopic image display and a method of controlling an optimal viewing distance thereof are provided. The multi-view autostereoscopic image display includes a display panel displaying multi-view image data, a display panel driver writing the multi-view image data, a 3D optical element separating the optical axes of the multi-view image data, a viewing distance sensing unit sensing the positions of both eyes of a viewer, and a viewing distance extension controller that detects viewing zones where both eyes of the viewer are located by comparing the positions of both eyes of the viewer with positional information of predefined viewing zones, and selectively converts at least some of the multi-view image data according to a change in the positions of the viewing zones where both eyes of the viewer are located.

Multi-view autostereoscopic image display and method of controlling optimal viewing distance thereof

An image data processing method comprises: extracting a depth map from an input image; separating the input image into a foreground area and a background area based on grayscales of the depth map; and modulating the maximum depth value of the input image to become smaller and the difference between depth values of a gray grayscale segment of the depth map to be greater than the difference between depth values of the foreground area and background area of the input image.

An autostereoscopic display and a control method thereof are disclosed. The autostereoscopic display includes a display panel displaying 3D image data, a backlight unit providing light to the display panel, a backlight driver which sequentially drives light sources of the backlight unit along a scanning direction of the 3D image data written to the display panel, a switchable 3D element which forms a barrier or a lens for separating optical axes of left eye image data and right eye image data from the 3D image data, and a 3D element driver which electrically controls the switchable 3D element and shifts the barrier or the lens formed in the switchable 3D element.

Autostereoscopic display and control method thereof

A 3D image display device is provided. The 3D image display device includes a display panel, a filter, a filter driver and a timing controller. The filter is disposed at a front surface of the display panel and comprises a light transmitting area for transmitting an images and a light blocking area for blocking an images. The timing controller converts a received 3D image into a copied 3D image, outputs the copied 3D image through the display panel in units of a frame, and controls the filter driver for switching between a position of the light transmitting area and a position of the light blocking area in units of a frame.

A stereoscopic image display includes a display panel, which displays first to nth view images produced by separating cameras from one another by a general distance between both eyes and photographing images of an object, where n is a natural number, a liquid crystal (LC) lens cell, which moves LC molecules existing in an LC layer between a lower substrate and an upper substrate of the display panel based on a voltage difference between a common electrode and each of electrodes to form an LC lens, an LC lens cell controller controlling a voltage supplied to each of the common electrode and the electrodes, and an LC lens cell driver supplying the voltage to each of the common electrode and the electrodes.
