Methods, computer program products, and system for managing a parameter of an application are provided. In one implementation, the method includes identifying a plurality of phases associated with the application, in which each phase corresponds to a time period during a lifecycle of the application. The method further includes defining a range of phases among the plurality of phases associated with the application during which a value of the parameter can be changed.

Managing application parameters based on parameter types

A system comprised of trigger mechanisms, a staging area, and an archived warehouse metadata table is used to extract, store, and archive extract, transform, and load (ETL) tasks from operational metadata in a data-warehousing environment. Operational metadata is comprised of ETL information; ETL task execution statuses, run number, definitions, control flow, and execution schedules. Specified ETL information is monitored and captured so that it may be extracted from operational metadata and transformed every time a trigger mechanism activates an update of stored data. Administrator-specified ETL task information is then stored in staging table. At specified intervals a staging table is refreshed with changes in operational data for each of the administrator-specified monitored and captured ETL tasks. Overwritten data, or outdated ETL task information, is then moved and stored in an archived warehouse metadata table. In one embodiment, archives are queried to generate reports analyzing the status of ETL tasks.

Dynamically capturing data warehouse population activities for analysis, archival, and mining

A multiple task wait system and associated method allow a client application to wait for multiple tasks to be successfully or conditionally implemented before running subsequent tasks. Two mechanisms can be used to accomplish this multiple wait process: The first mechanism uses a multi-wait grouping process that is visible to the client, and the second mechanism uses a graphical representation to identify the tasks to be completed. The multi-wait grouping process allows a client to group a related set of tasks together for both control and documentation purposes. The client can add as many tasks as the resources of the computer allow to a group while defining the data flows and control flows between the tasks in the group using various graphical tools. The multi-wait system allows the client to define the constraints and conditions for a set of tasks to be considered complete, and further allows the system to define the constraints and conditions for considering all the tasks within the group to be completed. By utilizing the group concept, the system can selectively control the tasks to be included in the completion decision based on predefined rules.

Multiple task wait system for use in a data warehouse environment

The present invention discloses a method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for monitoring performance of a parallel database in a computer. In accordance with the present invention, the parallel database is stored on a data storage device in the computer. Groups of database nodes are identified. Collection time periods for collecting performance statistics from the identified group of database nodes are determined. Performance statistics are periodically collected from a subset of each identified group of nodes during the collection time periods. The collected performance statistics are stored in a memory connected to the computer and re-used when collecting performance statistics from one or more groups of database nodes in a succeeding collection time period.
