A spacing-assured gas discharge tube assembly is installed on a printed circuit board, which may be part of a motor controller. The discharge tube assembly includes a tube body and an electrostatic spacing shield disposed at least partially around the tube body. The shield is configured to prevent close physical proximity of adjacent structures having electrostatic fields that may alter the breakdown voltage of the tube body.

A rotor for an electric motor includes a core, a plurality of magnets, and a magnet retention cap. The core is rotatable about an axis and defines a plurality of magnet-receiving slots. Each of the magnets is received in a respective one of the magnet-receiving slots. The magnet retention cap is fixed relative to the core and includes a resiliently deformable magnet retention element configured to restrict axial movement of the magnets relative to the core.

A rotor assembly for an electric motor includes a rotor core that is fabricated from a plurality of stacked laminations. The rotor core has a plurality of arcuately arranged, axially extending magnet receiving slots. The rotor core includes a plurality of magnets received in respective ones of the magnet receiving slots. The laminations include radially extending deflectable magnet retaining tabs that extend into the magnet receiving slots. The magnet retaining tabs engage and are deflected by a corresponding one of the magnets to exert a reactive force against the magnets.

An electric motor includes a stator assembly and a rotor assembly. The rotor assembly includes a rotor shaft that is rotatable relative to the stator assembly about a rotation axis. The motor also includes an endshield, a bearing assembly rotatably supporting the rotor shaft on the endshield, a shaft ground assembly electrically coupled to the rotor shaft, and a bearing lockplate. The bearing lockplate is fixedly coupled to the endshield. The shaft ground assembly is supported by the bearing lockplate on the endshield.

The controller is in part received within the control chamber. The controller includes a main electronics board and a modular connector assembly. The modular connector assembly includes a secondary electronics board and a connector at least in part supporting the secondary electronics board. The connector includes an inner connector portion and an outer connector portion. The connector extends through the control housing such that the inner connector portion is disposed inside the control chamber and the outer connector portion is disposed outside the control chamber. The outer connector portion defines a first access portal facilitating access to a first component of the secondary electronics board.

A slinger for an electric motor broadly includes a hub and a wheel. The motor includes a housing in which a stator and rotor are at least partly housed. The motor also includes a rotatable output shaft projecting upwardly through a shaft opening in the housing. The hub is fixedly attachable to the output shaft of the motor so that the slinger rotates with the output shaft. The wheel is configured to divert liquid radially away from the shaft opening. The wheel includes a wheel plate and a plurality of radially extending blades cooperatively forming a series of passages extending radially outward relative to the shaft opening, when the hub is attached to the output shaft. The wheel plate is supported by the hub so as to be positioned above the housing when the hub is attached to the output shaft. The blades present radially inboard ends intersecting the hub.

Each pair of end caps cooperatively defines a generally radially projecting, generally axially extending wire barrier including axially opposed ends. The controller includes a capacitor with a capacitor shell and a liquid electrolyte contained therein. The capacitor shell has a frangible rupture area that opens during a capacitor rupture event to permit the discharge of liquid electrolyte from the capacitor shell. The absorbent pad overlies the rupture area to collect discharged liquid electrolyte.

The cooling fan includes a wheel plate projecting radially relative to the shaft. The cooling fan further includes a plurality of radial blades that project axially from the wheel plate. The housing defines a motor chamber at least substantially receiving the motor and a controller chamber at least substantially receiving the controller. The housing includes a generally annular sidewall at least in part defining the controller chamber. The sidewall includes an electrically conductive portion adjacent the controller, such that a generally radially extending potentially electrical pathway is defined between the controller and the electrically conductive portion. The insulation system extends along the electrically conductive portion, in electrically insulative engagement therewith, to at least in part obstruct the pathway.
