A curved edge sewing system sews a curved edge of a cloth, such as a curved edge of a fly. The curved edge sewing system has a cloth support table, and a sewing needle located at a sewing position relative to the cloth support table. A cloth presser device moves towards and away from the cloth support table and rotates relative to the sewing needle. A first driver is operatively connected to the cloth presser device and moves the cloth presser device towards and away from the cloth support table. A second driver is operatively connected to the cloth presser device and rotates the cloth presser device relative to the sewing needle. A controller has a first signal supplied to the first driver and actuates the first driver, and a second signal supplied to the second driver and actuates the second driver.

Curved edge sewing systems

A method and apparatus of sewing a pair of opposed fabric pieces to a pair of continuous fastener stringers of a slide fastener; the fastener stingers having a pair of coupling elements mounted one on an opposed longitudinal edge thereof. The sewing of opposed fabric pieces to the fastener stringers is carried out at a sewing unit, while the fastener stringers are fed in disengaged disposition, with a predetermined distance kept therebetween.

Method and apparatus for sewing fabric pieces to fastener stringers

An improved apparatus for finishing slide fasteners by cutting off an elongate slide fastener chain across longitudinally spaced element-free spaces is provided wherein a slider arresting mechanism is disposed between a cutting mechanism and a feed mechanism and movable into and out of a path of travel of the slide fastener chain for temporarily arresting a slide fastener against downstream movement while the slide fastener chain is being fed by the feed mechanism, and a detecting mechanism is operatively connected with the slider arresting mechanism for detecting the engagement between an end stop and the slider which occurs when the slide fastener chain is fed by the feed mechanism while the slider is being arrested by the slider arresting mechanism. The detecting mechanism is operative, upon detection of the engagement between the end stop and the slider, to stop the operation of the feed mechanism to terminate the feed of the slide fastener chain and activate the cutting mechanism to perform its cutting operation.

Apparatus for finishing slide fasteners

An apparatus for sewing the opposed longitudinal edges of a pair of fabric pieces to a pair of stringer tapes of a continuous slide fastener chain along the outer longitudinal edges of the stringer tapes includes a support plate for supporting thereon the fabric pieces in parallel juxtaposition while the fabric pieces are delivered to said sewing station, a pair of parallel juxtaposed edge folders disposed longitudinally along a central portion of the support plate and extending downstream toward the sewing station for progressively folding over opposed longitudinal edges of the fabric pieces as the fabric pieces are advanced along the corresponding edge folders, and an endless belt drive unit, disposed in confrontation with the edge folders across the support plate and having a pair of endless belts frictionally engageable with a pair of parallel spaced portions, respectively, of the fabric pieces extending parallel to the edge folders, for positively feeding the fabric pieces toward the sewing station.

Apparatus for sewing fabric pieces to slide fastener chain

An improved method of serging a trouser-fly piece on a serging machine having a trimming cutter is disclosed wherein a continuous trouser-fly blank assembly is fed intermittently into a first feed path extending toward the serging unit at a predetermined angle relative to a path of movement of the trouser-fly piece being advanced by the serging unit. Then the continuous trouser-fly blank assembly is cut into a succession of elongate rectangular trouser-fly pieces each of which is subsequently advanced toward the serging unit along the first feed path. Thereafter, at least a corner of a leading end of the trouser-fly piece is trimmed by the trimming cutter and, substantially at the same time, one curved longitudinal edge of the trouser-fly piece including the trimmed corner is serged with a serge stitching. In this instance, the trouser-fly piece is caused to turn in one direction to move from the first feed path to a second feed path extending parallel to and aligned with the path of movement of the trouser-fly piece being advanced by the serge unit. With this rotational movement of the trouser-fly piece, the trimming cutter accurately traces a substantially arcuate trimming line passing across the corner. The serged trouser-fly piece is automatically discharged from the serging unit.

Method of serging trouser-fly piece with slide fastener stringer

A trouser-fly piece serging apparatus includes a guide unit disposed upstream of a serging station and composed of a first elongate guide member extending at an angle relative to the path of movement of a trouser-fly piece being advanced by a serging unit, and a second elongate guide member extending parallel to the path of movement of the trouser-fly piece. The trouser-fly piece is guided by the first guide member into the serging station so that a trimming cutter disposed immediately upstream of the serging unit assumes a position to conform to a curvature of the leading end of a substantially arcuate trimming line passing across a corner of the leading end of the trouser-fly piece. Synchronous operation of the serging unit and the trimming cutter causes the trouser-fly piece to turn in one direction during which an arcuate corner which is trimmed by the trimming cutter and subsequently serged by the serging unit is automatically produced on the leading end of the trouser-fly piece. Then, the trouser-fly piece is guided by the second guide member, and as the trouser-fly piece is further advanced, a curved longitudinal edge of the trouser-fly piece including the trimmed arcuate corner is completely serged with an overedge or serge stitching.

Trouser-fly piece serging apparatus

An apparatus for automatically sewing a succession of fabric pieces to a continuous slide fastener chain comprises a sewing machine for feeding and sewing the fabric pieces and slide fastener chain together; a guiding apparatus disposed upstream of the sewing machine and including a pair of opposed guide rollers urged towards each other with the slide fastener chain interposed therebetween so as to be driven via the slide fastener chain by the sewing machine while guiding the slide fastener chain towards the sewing machine; and a feeding apparatus disposed between the guiding apparatus and the sewing machine and including a pair of opposed feed rollers urged towards each other so as to convergently place therebetween the slide fastener chain into superimposed relation to the fabric pieces and to feed the fabric pieces with the slide fastener chain thus superimposed thereon to the sewing machine. One feed roller of the two feed rollers of the feeding apparatus which the fabric pieces ride on and one guide roller of the guide rollers of guiding apparatus are so linked as to rotate with each other.

In a sewing of successive substantially rectangular fly pieces to a continuous slide fastener chain on a sewing machine, a corner of the leading end of the individual fly piece is automatically folded as the fly piece is advanced toward a sewing station defined by the sewing machine, then two plies of the folded corner are joined with a line of stitches when the fly piece is sewn to the slide fastener chain by the same stitches. A longitudinal edge of the fly pieces is serged with a line of overedge stitches running across the folded corner.
