A Haber-Bosch process including the steps of providing a reactor having a substrate with catalyst filaments formed thereon. The catalyst filaments are formed of a metal including iron. A nitrogen compound and hydrogen are injected into the reactor such that at least a portion of the nitrogen compound and hydrogen contact the catalyst filaments. The nitrogen compound and hydrogen are reacted with the catalyst filaments at a temperature of less than about 600&#xb0; F. and a pressure of less than about 2000 psig.

Nanofilaments of catalytic materials for chemical process improvements

A Fischer-Tropsch process including the steps of providing a reactor having a substrate element with a surface and a plurality of elongated micro-structures of catalyst material attached to the substrate surface The catalyst material includes at least one of cobalt, iron, or ruthenium and the micro-structures have a width of less than about 1 um and a length at least five times the width. A carbon compound and hydrogen are injected into the reactor such that at least a portion of the carbon compound and hydrogen contact the catalyst material. The carbon compound and hydrogen are reacted with the catalyst at a temperature between about 150&#xb0; F. and about 400&#xb0; F.

A Fischer-Tropsch process including the steps of providing a reactor having a substrate element with a surface and a plurality of elongated micro-structures of catalyst material attached to the substrate surface The catalyst material includes at least one of cobalt, iron, or ruthenium and the micro-structures have a width of less than about 1 um and a length at least five times the width. A carbon compound and hydrogen are injected into the reactor such that at least a portion of the carbon compound and hydrogen contact the catalyst material. The carbon compound and hydrogen are reacted with the catalyst at a temperature between about 80&#xb0; F. and about 200&#xb0; F.

Bound cobalt nanowires for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

On-chip microplasma discharge devices capable of producing light, including ultraviolet light, capable of detecting atomic and molecular gas, and capable of detecting atomic and molecular contaminants in water samples. The on-chip microplasma discharge devices utilize nanoparticles or magnets to tune or confine microplasma discharges generated by electrodes delivering a voltage to the device. Selective control of the gaseous pressure at a value between atmospheric pressure and a vacuum pressure allows for further refinement of gas or contaminant detection, or for further tuning of the wavelength of the light to be produced.

On-chip microplasma systems

A device for detecting radiation includes a substantially transparent substrate with one or more substantially transparent scintillating films patterned onto the surface and with one or more integrated waveguides such that radiation of differing species may be detected by an optical light detector and such that the composition of the radiation may be analyzed. A scintillating material for detecting individual species of radiation and including one or more groups of nanoparticles mixed with a fast electron scintillating material and extruded into a transparent film such that a light pulse is emitted when said transparent film is exposed to the species of radiation targeted by the nanoparticle groups.

An elevator leveling control for a system described in U.S. Pat. No. 3,056,469, includes a leveling cylinder and piston arrangement responding to less pressure than the main control cylinder and piston, so that during the operation of the main cylinder and piston, the leveling piston is always in its uppermost position, and a leveling cam, carried by the leveling cylinder-piston arrangement produces the minimum resistance in a rheostat electrically connected to the control field of a generator supplying power to the elevator motor. Through the travel of the elevator in high speed, the leveling rheostat is disconnected from the control field and the main rheostat is connected. At a given distance from the floor at which the elevator is to stop, a valve in the hydraulic system is energized to close, holding the main rheostat from dropping farther, the main rheostat is disconnected and the leveling rheostat is electrically connected to the generator control field. The leveling cam then acts to increase the resistance in the control field of the generator to bring the car smoothly and accurately to its rest position.

Elevator leveling control

In a hydraulic elevator system including a hydraulic cylinder, ram mounted in the cylinder and supporting an elevator car, a reservoir of hydraulic fluid and a return line connected to communicate with hydraulic fluid in the cylinder and the reservoir to permit the fluid to exhaust from the cylinder to the reservoir, a control valve assembly has an exhaust orifice communicating with the fluid in the hydraulic cylinder and with the reservoir, an exhaust piston for selectively closing and opening the orifice and a device responsive to pressure of the hydraulic fluid for limiting the amount by which the exhaust piston opens the orifice.

Hydraulic elevator system

An improved thermostatic switch which employs a pressure linear thermal power element and a simplified diaphragm motion translating and amplifying means while dispensing with need for diaphragm loading spring. It features a one piece motion transmitting lever between the diaphragm and electric switch operator, and an improved snap-action switch operating mechanism. A one-piece molded insulating housing, and an improved knob coupling member on the temperature range adjusting shaft are employed.
