A plastic vessel (10) for containing a hot liquid and having the capability of being placed on a hot plate, burner or the like to maintain the liquid hot includes a top portion (11) molded of a first heat resistant plastic material. A base portion (13) molded of a second plastic material being more heat resistant than the first plastic material is attached to the top portion (11) to close the same and form the container for the hot liquid. One form of attachment of the base portion (13) to the top portion (11) is the utilization of a gasket (12) preferably formulated of a mixture of the first and second plastic materials which is heated to fuse the top portion (11) to the base portion (13). A heat shield (14, 40), formed of a third plastic material which is more heat resistant than the first and second plastic materials and which can withstand the heat of direct contact with the hot plate, is attached to the bottom of the base portion (13). One form of such attachment is a heat stake (32) which depends from the bottom of the base portion (13) and extends through an aperture (33) in the heat shield (14, 40) for attachment by a staking process.

A bin for granular substance is disclosed comprising a receptacle (4) having an inwardly rolled top rim flange (14). The rim flange in turn defines an integral registration detent region (B). Rearward and forward lid components (38, 42) are mounted over the receptacle opening with the rearward lid component having a depending J-shaped appendages (30), which are located to extend below the below the receptacle of downturned rim flange (16). The forward lid component (38) is adapted having elements (52, 56) for sliding and pivotal engagement with the rearward lid component, whereby the forward lid component can be slidably repositioned along the rearward lid component, and at any position therealong, pivot upward to expose the receptacle top opening.

A shock resistant gasketing system (10) for a liquid container (11) has a resilent gasket (14), a base (12) which has an enclosed area (20) therein, and a cover (13). A rim (25) defines an opening (26) into the enclosed area (20). The rim (25) has a retaining wall groove (30) and a gasket seat (27) contiguous with the opening into the enclosed area (20) and continguous with the retaining wall groove (30). The cover (13) is affixable to the base (12) and closes the opening (26) when the cover (13) is affixed to the base (12). Latches (40) can secure the cover (13) to the base (12). The cover (13) has a retaining wall (50) structurally corresponding to the retaining wall groove (30) of the base (12), such that the retaining wall (50) fits within the retaining wall groove (30) when the cover (13) is affixed to the base (12). The gasket (14) is positioned on the gasket seat (27) and is impinged between the base (12) and the cover (13) when the cover (13) is affixed to the base (12).

Shock resistant gasketing system for liquid containers

A venting structure (14) for an enclosed fluid container (10) includes a tubular shank (16) projecting through an aperture in the cover (11) of the container (10). A baffle wall (26) closes the upper end of the shank (16) and has a central vent hole (27) therein. A cap (30) is removeably secured to the upper portion of the shank (16) and has interior walls forming an expansion chamber (34) with a slotted bottom wall. The upper portion of the shank (16) is provided with exterior longitudinal channels (29) which extend below the bottom of the cap so that the expansion chamber may communicate with the atmosphere.
