Dye-receiving elements for thermal dye transfer are disclosed comprising a cellulose fiber paper support having thereon a dye image-receiving layer. The cellulose fibers of the paper support are fibers of hardwood varieties selected from those a) having a length weighted average fiber length equal to or less than about 0.5 mm as measured after pulping and bleaching or b) pulped by the sulfite process. The paper supports have a specific bending stiffness of less than about 0.4 Nm.sup.7 /kg.sup.3 for paper prepared on a continuous Fourdrinier wire machine as measured in the machine direction.

Receiving element with cellulose paper support for use in thermal dye

A dye-receiving element for thermal dye transfer includes a support having on one side thereof a dye image-receiving layer. Receiving elements of the invention are characterized in that the dye image-receiving layer comprises a miscible blend of an unmodified bisphenol-A polycarbonate and a polyether modified polycarbonate, the polyether modified polycarbonate being a block copolymer of polyether block units and bisphenol-A polycarbonate block units.

Thermal dye transfer receiving element with miscible polycarbonate

Thermal dye transfer receiving elements are disclosed comprising a base having thereon a dye image-receiving layer, the base comprising a composite film laminated to a support, the dye image-receiving layer being on the composite film side of the base. The composite film comprises a microvoided thermoplastic core layer and at least one substantially void-free thermoplastic surface (skin) layer.
