A system and corresponding method for verifying digital postal marks on mailpieces or, more generally, for verifying a mark on any kind of document where the mark represents value and might be counterfeited or used fraudulently, the system including in the specific case of verifying a digital postal mark: a plurality of mail processing machine verification modules (MPMVMs), each responsive to information obtained from sampled mailpieces, and each further responsive to a control file specifying patterns of sampling and specifying responses to sampling results, each MPMVM performing local verification of the sampled mailpieces according to the control file, each MPMVM for providing the information obtained from the sampled mailpieces and optionally the local verification results; and a data center verification module (DCVM), responsive to the information obtained from the sampled mailpieces and also to the local verification results, for analyzing the information obtained from the sampled mailpieces, for periodically providing a control file in replacement of any existing control file, the replacement control file being based on the results of collectively analyzing the information obtained from the mailpieces. In some applications, the control file includes a suspect list and a configuration file, the suspect list providing a list of postage meter identifiers and, for each postage meter identifier, a corresponding action each MPMVM is to take when processing a mailpiece with an indicium imprinted by said postage meter, the configuration file providing sampling criteria and tests to be performed by each MPMVM.

System and method for verifying digital postal marks

The present invention is directed to a method and system for remote receipt of a message, such as a telephone, e-mail, facsimile or paper message. A server or data center is provided for receiving messages from a sender communicating with a recipient mobile device. The mobile device is then prompted to notify the recipient that a message is waiting. If the recipient desires to receive the message, he/she indicates this on his/her mobile device. The mobile device and the device which will receive the message, i.e., the destination device, are provided with a tag for wireless communication. The message recipient is prompted to bring the mobile device in close enough proximity to the destination device such that the tag sends information about the destination devise to the mobile device. The mobile device communicates the information via wireless communications means with the data center. The data center then determines if any translation or transcoding of the original message is required in order for the destination device to receive the message in proper format. Once transcoding or translation is effected, the message is routed to the destination device for output.

Method and system for remote retrieval of documents

The present invention provides a mobile device equipped with a wireless communication capability for generating electronic documents. The mobile device uses the wireless communication capability to communicate with a separate wireless communication tag. The wireless communication tag includes such information as a print device destination address, and the capabilities of the print device matching the destination address. The mobile device receives the destination device information and sends it and a document to a remote data processing center. The document and information may be sent via a network connection or a mobile communication device to a data-processing center. Once the data center receives the information and document the data processing center, the data center determines if any translation or transcoding of the original message is required in order for the destination device to receive the message in the a format which is compatible to the desired destination device. Once transcoding or translation is effected, the message is routed to the identified destination device, which then print the message.

Method and system for remote printing of documents

The present invention is directed to a method and system for remote receipt of a message, such as a telephone, e-mail, facsimile or paper message. Method and system for remote retrieval of messages using spontaneous networking technology

A system, device and method for recording information to be included on a substrate in both human and machine readable forms. The system includes a programmable stamp which can be affixed to the substrate, and a data recording and input device is provided for use with the system. The data recording and input device includes a pen; an accelerometer system generating signals representative of the movement of the pen; a memory; a wireless communications system; and a processor responsive to the accelerometer signals and communicating with the memory and the wireless communications system. In a first mode the processor is programmed to process the accelerometer signals to recognize data written with the pen and store the recognized data in the memory. In a second mode the processor is programmed to control the wireless communications system to transmit the stored data to the programmable stamp.

A method and apparatus for controlling an insertion device includes the steps of providing sensors for providing respective signals in accordance with selected events associated with the operations and providing a plurality of motor profiles for operation of motors associated with the operations. Respective motors associated with respective operations of the apparatus are driven in correspondence with selected ones of said plurality of motor profiles for controlling driving of said motors in response to receiving the event signals from the sensors and other modules of the control program. In the event of out of tolerance conditions the envelope can be diverted and another substituted without having to shut down and restart the system at a known place.

Asynchronous control of insertion apparatus

The present invention provides an inserter based system that performs automated sorting of mailpieces in accordance with predetermined postal discount requirements. The system comprises an inserter for assembling the mailpieces and a sorter coupled to the inserter. The sorter includes a sorter controller and a plurality of on-edge sorting bins. The system also includes communicating mailpiece data and configuration data to the sorter controller. The sorter controller controls the sorting of mailpieces received from the inserter into sort groups according to postal discount requirements. A turn-up and alignment device and a vertical transport are located between the inserter and the sorter. The turn-up and alignment device turns the mailpieces from a horizontal alignment out of the inserter to a vertical alignment. The vertical transport transports the mailpieces on-edge to the sorter. The sorter further includes a scanner for scanning codes printed on the mailpieces. The sorter controller uses data from the scanned codes for sorting the mailpieces to designated sort bins.

On-line sorting for an inserter system

In accordance with the present invention, a system for automated intelligent traying of mailpieces in accordance with predetermined postal discount requirements comprises an inserter for assembling the mailpieces and a trayer coupled to the inserter. The trayer includes a traying controller and a plurality of on-edge stacking bins. A supervisor is operatively coupled to the trayer controller for communicating mailpiece data and configuration data to and from the trayer controller. The trayer controller controls the sorting of mailpieces received from the inserter into tray groups according to postal discount requirements. In an alternate embodiment, the trayer is coupled to an on-edge mailpiece feeding structure such that the trayer is coupled to a system supervisor for performing automated intelligent traying separately from an inserter. In a further alternate embodiment, the trayer is off-line from an inserter or a supervisor and performs intelligent traying of mailpieces based solely on data scanned from the mailpiece and data downloaded to the trayer controller.
