The invention features a coating composition that comprises a non-urethane acrylate or methacrylate compound in combination with a fluorochemical. Typically, the non-urethane (meth)acrylate is an aliphatic or aromatic (meth)acrylate compound and the fluorochemical typically comprises a monofunctional (per)fluoropolyether (meth)acrylate compound. The coating compositions can provide a protective topcoat layer to a variety of substrates, including wood and vinyl.

Hardcoat compositions and methods

Coating compositions are described that can be used to impart hydrophobicity, oleophobicity, stain resistance, or combinations thereof to various substrates. The coating compositions include an amino resin and a reactive fluorinated copolymer. The reactive fluorinated copolymer has pendant perfluoropolyether groups as well as pendant groups capable of reacting with the amino resin. The pendant perfluoropolyether groups of the reactive fluorinated copolymer have a molecular weight of at least 750 g/mole. The present invention relates to optical elements comprising fluorochemical surface treatments. A method for the production of poly(vinyl trifluoroacetate) and copolymers thereof with vinyl esters is described. Poly(vinyl trifluoroacetate) (PVTFA) is obtained in relatively high yield under mild conditions by using carbon dioxide under supercritical conditions as a solvent.
