A method of operation of a data storage system includes: providing a standby power source; detecting activity on a communication channel with an upstream re-driver powered with the standby power source; generating a signal-detect output from the upstream re-driver based on the activity; determining a link status with a power control unit based on the signal-detect output, the power control unit powered with the standby power source; and generating a power output from a power supply unit based on the link status, the power supply unit controlled by the power control unit.

Data storage system with power management and method of operation thereof

A switch apparatus and method according to the invention implements a three stage switching process. Various types of media streams presented to the switch apparatus by the broadband and narrowband connections are adapted for switching by being converted to ATM cells and enqueued in corresponding virtual circuit (VC) queues. ATM cell switching is performed among the different cards based on the quality of service requirement for each virtual circuit. The switched ATM cells are then converted to the outgoing media types and outputted to the necessary broadband and narrowband connections. The switch apparatus and method is further adapted to perform rate shaping and traffic management so as to guarantee the quality of service for various media types (voice, video, data) and also minimize the traffic loss due to rate mismatch between narrowband and broadband connections during the burst period. By virtue of this implementation, the switch apparatus and method of the present invention can perform any-to-any media type switching.

Multimedia and multirate switching method and apparatus

In a digital switch, incoming cells are placed into a queue in a cell memory. The switch maintains various cell queues, including VC queues that correspond to individual connections and QBin queues that correspond to various classes of service. Cells may arrive to a VC queue or a QBin queue but will depart from a QBin queue. Accordingly, cells may be moved from VC queues to QBin queues. Cells are serviced according to the use of QBin Groups. A QBin Group (QBG) includes a number of logical queues (QBins) of cells to be transported in the digital network. After a QBG is selected, one of its logical queues is selected for servicing. The QBG may be selected by examining all of the QBGs to find an eligible QBG which is most overdue for service. A QBin of the selected QBG may then be selected by examining each of the QBins comprising the selected QBG to find the most overdue for service. The QBGs may correspond to virtual interfaces.
