An apparatus is disclosed for adaptive multi-mode charging. In an example aspect, the apparatus includes at least one charger having a first node and a second node. The at least one charger is configured to accept an input voltage at the first node. The at least one charger is also configured to selectively operate in a first mode to generate a first output voltage at the second node that is greater than or less than the input voltage or operate in a second mode to generate a second output voltage at the second node that is substantially equal to the input voltage.

Methods and apparatus for trickle charging and precharging a dead multi-cell-in-series battery. One battery charging circuit generally includes a charge pump circuit comprising a plurality of switches, being coupled to first and second power supply nodes, and being configured to multiply (or divide) a first voltage at the first power supply node to generate a second voltage at the second power supply node; a driver circuit configured to drive the plurality of switches in the charge pump circuit; and an arbiter having a first input coupled to the first power supply node, a second input coupled to the second power supply node, a third input coupled to a third power supply node having a third voltage, and an output coupled to a power supply terminal of the driver circuit. The arbiter is configured to select between the first, second, and third voltages to power the driver circuit.

Battery charging circuit and methods for trickle charging and precharging a dead multi-cell-in-series battery

An apparatus is disclosed for adaptively providing power. In example implementations, an apparatus includes a power adapter coupler, at least one transistor, a first charger, and a second charger. The first charger and the second charger are coupled between the power adapter coupler and the transistor. The apparatus also includes a first switch, a second switch, and a charging controller. The first switch is coupled in series with the first charger between the power adapter coupler and the transistor. The second switch is coupled in series with the second charger between the power adapter coupler and the transistor. The charging controller is coupled to the first switch and the second switch. The charging controller is configured to selectively close the first switch to connect the first charger to the at least one transistor or close the second switch to connect the second charger to the at least one transistor.

Adaptive power systems and techniques

Methods and apparatus for converting power using a multi-output switched-mode power supply (SMPS) coupled to a multi-cell-in-series battery, such as charging a two-cell-in-series (2S) battery using a dual-output three-level buck converter coupled thereto, or using a multi-input SMPS circuit receiving power from a multi-cell-in-series battery. The charging system includes a first charger having a first current path and a second charger having a second current path. A battery charging circuit includes a buck converter, a charge pump power converter, a sensor external to or internal to the battery charging circuit, and a control unit. The charge pump power converter includes an output coupled to an output of the buck converter for charging a battery. The sensor is configured to sense a total input current. The control unit receives the total input current that is sensed and compensates for a variation in an input current to the charge pump power converter based on whether the total input current meets a specified current variance.

Enhanced reverse boosting detection in a wireless charging scheme is disclosed. In some implementations, a minimum mid-level input voltage regulation (VMID_MIN regulation) loop is provided to regulate an input voltage from a wirelessly coupled power source when a mid-level of the input voltage falls below a predetermined threshold. The input voltage is provided to a buck converter within a wireless charging receiver. An input missing poller signal generator is provided to generate an input missing poller (IMP) signal if the VMID_MIN regulation loop becomes active and the buck converter has entered a discontinuous mode.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for limiting the power drawn by a battery charger based on monitoring of the input voltage and input current supplied to the battery charger from a power supply. In certain aspects, a method generally includes sensing an output voltage of the power supply, wherein the output voltage of the power supply is variable. The method further includes sensing an output current of the power supply. The method further includes providing the output voltage and output current to a battery charger. The method further includes generating a control signal indicative of a scaling of the output current based on a scaling factor, wherein the scaling factor is based on the output voltage. The method further includes providing the control signal to the battery charger to control the output current supplied by the power supply to the battery charger.

Exemplary embodiments are directed to power path switching between multiple charging ports of an electronic device. A device may include a charging port of a plurality of charging ports for coupling to a power supply via an over-voltage protection circuit. The device may further including a comparison unit configured to couple the charging port to the power supply based at least partially on a comparison between a voltage at an input of the over-voltage protection circuit coupled to the charging port with a voltage at the output of the over-voltage protection circuit coupled to the power supply.

Power path switching in an electronic device including a plurality of charging ports

A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for booting the apparatus with a low-energy battery are provided. In a first configuration, the apparatus monitors a level of the battery while the battery is charging. The apparatus attempts a boot of the apparatus when the level is greater than or equal to a dynamic boot threshold. The apparatus increases the dynamic boot threshold when the boot is unsuccessful and repeating the monitoring and the attempting based on the increased dynamic boot threshold. In a second configuration, the apparatus detects a connection to an external power source. The apparatus attempts a boot using an FLCB protocol that is based upon power drawn directly from the external power source upon detecting the connection to the external power source. The apparatus attempts the boot as part of an ATC protocol when the boot using the FLCB protocol is unsuccessful.

Booting a mobile electronic device with a low battery based on a dynamic boot threshold

A conductive multi-touch touch-sensitive panel includes two intersecting but electrically isolated arrays of linear conductors which can be brought into electrical contact by touching the panel. A display element may be positioned beneath the two arrays of linear conductors to provide a touchscreen panel. A touch to a cover plate or member causes one or more linear conductors in one array to contact one or more linear conductors in the other array. The location of a touch to the panel can be detected by individually or sequentially applying an electrical signal, such as a voltage or current, to each linear conductor in one array while sensing voltage or current on each of the linear conductors in the other array.
