An electrode assembly is prepared by stacking and winding a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator disposed between the first and second electrodes. The electrode assembly is curved to the center of an axis that is substantially parallel to a length direction of the electrode assembly, and the separator has a coated layer of a thermoplastic polymer on at least one side thereof. A battery cell including the electrode assembly, and a method of preparing the battery cell have also been disclosed. The battery cell including the electrode assembly may have a high strength.

A rechargeable lithium battery includes an electrode assembly including a positive electrode including a positive current collector, a first separator on the positive electrode, a negative electrode including a negative current collector on the first separator, and a second separator on the negative electrode. The positive current collector and the negative current collector each have respective uncoated regions at two sides thereof. The first separator includes a first substrate including a polyolefin-based resin particle, and a coating layer on a side of the first substrate the coating layer being an inorganic layer or an organic layer. The second separator includes a second substrate including a polyolefin-based resin particle, and an outermost region and/or a central region of the electrode assembly includes one of the uncoated regions of the positive current collector, the first separator, one of the uncoated regions of the negative current collector and the second separator.

A battery pack that can prevent deformation caused by external impact as well as leakage of an electrolyte. The battery pack includes a bare cell including a pouch type casing, an electrode assembly accommodated in the pouch type casing, and positive and negative electrode tabs extending from one side of the pouch type casing, a protection circuit board electrically connected to the bare cell, and a main body accommodating the bare cell and the protection circuit board. The battery pack also includes at least one reinforcing plate, wherein ends of the reinforcing plate are in contact with a surface of a front end portion of the bare cell or an inner surface of the main body. The reinforcing plate can be formed integrally with an upper or lower case of the main body or can be formed separately and disposed in the upper case or lower case.

Provided are a cap assembly for a secondary battery and a secondary battery having the same. Here, when a can is sealed using a laser beam, soot and degradation of a gasket of the cap assembly may be prevented. The cap assembly includes an electrode terminal, a cap plate having a terminal through-hole, and a gasket disposed between the electrode terminal and the cap plate, and a distance between an outermost edge of the gasket and an outermost edge of the cap plate is 0.7 times or greater than a diameter of a laser beam used in a sealing process of the can.

Alternatively, the finishing tape includes a film layer and an adhesive layer, and satisfies the equation Y=tensile strength&#xd7;thickness of film layer of finishing tape/modulus of elasticity, with Yranging from 51 to 75. The finishing tape effectively prevents an increase in the thickness of a high-capacity secondary battery.
