Methods and apparatuses for data-driven uplink power control in a wireless network are described. In some embodiments, a network entity in a communication system supporting the uplink power control by the design of target signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (TSIR) patterns for one or more cells in the target area, where the network entity comprises: a transceiver to receive reported traffic data from one or more cells in the target area; and a TSIR generation engine having one or more processors configured to automatically generate the one or more signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (TSIR) patterns for the one or more cells of the target area in response to one or more trigger conditions, wherein the transceiver component is operable to transmit at least one of the one or more TSIR patterns to one or more cells in the target area.

Data-driven uplink power control in a wireless network

A method and apparatus is disclosed herein for base station selection based on uplink pilot and distributed user-proximity detection. In one embodiment, the method comprises performing uplink pilot configuration for a plurality of user terminals over a set of common resource elements, including generating a plurality of pilot patterns for the plurality of user terminals, where each of the plurality of pilot patterns comprises at least one zero-power resource element and at least one non-zero-power resource element and at least one zero-power resource element allocated to each different one of the plurality of user terminals has a different position in the pilot pattern.

Mechanism and procedure of base station selection based on uplink pilot and distributed user-proximity detection

A method and apparatus for data transmission in a cellular system are disclosed herein In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving transmissions of uplink pilot signals made in each slot, by a number of UEs, over the radio resource elements in slots that are allocated for uplink pilot transmission, wherein the number of UEs in the vicinity of at least one base station exceeds the number of radio resource elements that have been allocated for uplink pilot transmission in the slot; estimating large-scale radio-channel propagation strengths of a plurality of nearby UEs to a base station; estimating radio-propagation channel coefficients between each base-station antenna and each UE, in a subset of UEs in the plurality of nearby UEs that have large-scale radio-channel propagation strengths to the base station that are stronger than those UEs in the plurality of nearby UEs not part of the subset; and transmitting to in-cell UEs via multi-user beamforming, including suppressing interference to one or more nearby out-of-cell UEs that are part of the plurality of nearby UEs.

Method and apparatus for extracting large-scale features in propagation channels via non-orthogonal pilot signal designs

A method and apparatus is disclosed herein for uplink pilot reuse and user-proximity detection in wireless networks. In one embodiment, a wireless system is disclosed for use in a wireless network having a plurality of user terminals (UTs), where at least two UTs of the plurality of UTs have pre-assigned user uplink pilot codes and are allocated common pilot resources over at least two concurrent slots, the system comprising a UT-proximity detection processor to determine which UT channels the UT-proximity detection processor can resolve among a group of UTs transmitting pilots in identical pilot resources, the UT-proximity detection processor operable to resolve a UT channel of a UT by determining the UT is in proximity of the system and no other UT in the group of UTs transmitting pilots that has transmitted a pilot on the identical pilot resources is in proximity of the system.

Uplink pilot reuse and user-proximity detection in wireless networks

A method, apparatus, and wireless communication system is disclosed herein for operating a BIA code structure in a system. In one embodiment, the wireless communication system comprises a plurality of receivers, wherein each receiver in the plurality having a multi-mode antenna with a single radio frequency (RF) chain that is operable in a plurality of antenna modes, and further wherein each receiver shifts between the plurality of antenna modes in a predetermined manner. The system also includes a plurality of base stations to perform cluster-based transmission, each base station in the plurality of base stations having one or more transmitters having a transmit antenna and being operable to communicate with one or more of receivers in the plurality of receivers using a blind interference alignment (BIA) scheme, and wherein the plurality of base stations are grouped in different clusters at different times according to cluster patterns.
