Disclosed are new thread profiles that provide multi-point contact improving the vibration resistance of the threaded fastener, and thereby greatly reducing the need for fastener coatings, such as nylon patches. In various embodiments, the threaded faster may have a threaded portion configured to engage two or three points of a mating thread, and the threaded portion has a thread defined by a crest portion, a leading flank, at least one root portion, and a trailing flank, all of which may be oriented at angle relative to the normal axis.

A self-clinching fastener suitable for connection to a member having a shank of a diameter less than a head portion, the head portion having at least eight lands extending outwardly along the underside of the head portion spaced about the shank, each land having a face surface extending beyond the shank to a diameter less than or equal to the radius of the head portion, the width of the lands reducing from adjacent the shank toward the radius of the head portion. The fastener further includes an axial annular engagement groove having a diameter larger than the shank, the annular engagement groove axially extending from the lands to a retaining collar adjacent the shank, the groove adapted to relieve material of a member on installation by receiving material as the lands in the underside of the head portion mechanically interlock with the member.

A threaded fastener having a threaded portion with a ratio of pitch diameter to minor diameter less than 1.28, and the threaded portion with a major diameter portion, a leading flank having a normal angle between 10&#xb0; and 60&#xb0;, a trailing flank having a normal angle between 1&#xb0; and 30&#xb0;, and a shank portion extending between the trailing flank and the leading flank of adjacent threads of a arcuate surface having a radius greater than the thread height. The arcuate surface forming the shank portion may have a radius between 1.2 and 1.8 times the thread height.
