A display may include an array of pixels covered by lenticular lenses. The lenticular lenses may cause expansion of light primarily in a horizontal direction. To improve the perceived resolution of the display, the horizontal resolution of the pixels on the display may be increased. In one possible layout, each pixel includes one red sub-pixel, one blue sub-pixel, and one green sub-pixel. The sub-pixels may be non-square rectangular. The sub-pixels may be the same size or may have the same widths and different heights. Each pixel may be asymmetric about a horizontal axis. In a given row, the pixels may alternate between first and second layouts. The second layout may be a vertically flipped version of the first layout.

Pixel arrangements for displays with lenticular lenses

A lenticular display may be formed with convex curvature. The lenticular display may have a lenticular lens film with lenticular lenses that extend across the length of the display. The lenticular lenses may be configured to enable stereoscopic viewing of the display. To enable more curvature in the display while ensuring satisfactory stereoscopic display performance, the display may have stereoscopic zones and non-stereoscopic zones. A central stereoscopic zone may be interposed between first and second non-stereoscopic zones. The non-stereoscopic zones may have more curvature than the stereoscopic zone. To prevent crosstalk within the lenticular display, a louver film may be incorporated into the display. The pixel array may have a diagonal layout and may be covered by vertically oriented lenticular lenses.

Pixel arrangements for electronic device displays

A display may have an array of pixels. Display driver circuitry may supply data and control signals to the pixels. Each pixel may have seven transistors, a capacitor, and a light-emitting diode such as an organic light-emitting diode. The seven transistors may receive control signals using horizontal control lines. Each pixel may have first and second emission enable transistors that are coupled in series with a drive transistor and the light-emitting diode of that pixel. The first and second emission enable transistors may be coupled to a common control line or may be separately controlled so that on-bias stress can be effectively applied to the drive transistor. The display driver circuitry may have gate driver circuits that provide different gate line signals to different rows of pixels within the display. Different rows may also have different gate driver strengths and different supplemental gate line loading structures.

Light-emitting diode displays

An organic light-emitting diode display may have thin-film transistor circuitry formed on a substrate. The display and substrate may have rounded corners. A pixel definition layer may be formed on the thin-film transistor circuitry. Openings in the pixel definition layer may be provided with emissive material overlapping respective anodes for organic light-emitting diodes. A cathode layer may cover the array of pixels. A ground power supply path may be used to distribute a ground voltage to the cathode layer. The ground power supply path may be formed from a metal layer that is shorted to the cathode layer using portions of a metal layer that forms anodes for the diodes, may be formed from a mesh shaped metal pattern, may have L-shaped path segments, may include laser-deposited metal on the cathode layer, and may have other structures that facilitate distribution of the ground power supply.

Power and data routing structures for organic light-emitting diode displays

Electrical shield line systems are provided for openings in common electrodes near data lines of display and touch screens. Some displays, including touch screens, can include multiple common electrodes (Vcom) that can have openings between individual Vcoms. Some display screens can have an open slit between two adjacent edges of Vcom. Openings in Vcom can allow an electric field to extend from a data line through the Vcom layer. A shield can be disposed over the Vcom opening to help reduce or eliminate an electric field from affecting a pixel material, such as liquid crystal. The shield can be connected to a potential such that electric field is generated substantially between the shield and the data line to reduce or eliminate electric fields reaching the liquid crystal.

Display screen shield line system

Increasing resolution of liquid crystal displays may result in small distances between adjacent liquid crystal display pixels. This tight pixel spacing may reduce transmission through the liquid crystal display pixels and may result in cross-talk between the liquid crystal display pixels. To increase transmission and, correspondingly, display efficiency, a reflective layer may be included in the liquid crystal display. The reflective layer recycles backlight that may otherwise be absorbed, improving transmittance and efficiency. To reduce color shift and color mixing caused by cross-talk, the pixels may have their pixel electrodes arranged in a zigzag layout. Each pixel electrode may have a height that is less than or equal to the total height of the pixel divided by two. The pixel electrodes in a given row are also alternatingly coupled to first and second gate lines. This zigzag layout results in an increased distance between adjacent pixel electrodes, mitigating pixel cross-talk.

Pixel layouts for electronic device displays

An organic light-emitting diode display may have thin-film transistor circuitry formed on a substrate. The display and substrate may have rounded corners. A pixel definition layer may be formed on the thin-film transistor circuitry. Openings in the pixel definition layer may be provided with emissive material overlapping respective anodes for organic light-emitting diodes. A cathode layer may cover the array of pixels. A ground power supply path may be used to distribute a ground voltage to the cathode layer. The ground power supply path may be formed from a metal layer that is shorted to the cathode layer using portions of a metal layer that forms anodes, may be formed from a mesh shaped metal pattern, may have L-shaped path segments, and may include laser-deposited metal on the cathode layer. Data lines may be formed from metal layers in the active area to accommodate the rounded corners of the display.

A display may have rows and columns of pixels that form an active area for displaying images. A display driver integrated circuit may provide multiplexed data signals to demultiplexer circuitry in the display. The demultiplexer circuitry may demultiplex the data signals and provide the demultiplexed data signals to the pixels on data lines. Gate lines may control the loading of the data signals into the pixels. The display may have a length dimension and a width dimension that is shorter than the length dimension. The data lines may extend parallel to the width dimension and the gate lines may extend parallel to the length dimension such that there are more data lines than gate lines in the display. A notch that is free of pixels may extend into the active area. Data lines extending parallel to the width dimension of the display may be routed around the notch.

Electronic devices with narrow display borders

An electronic device may include a display. The display includes display driver circuitry for driving data lines routed across the display. The electronic device may have a recessed device housing region, where at least some of the data lines are routed around the recessed region. The data lines being routed around the recessed region may be formed in at least two different metal routing layers. The electronic device may further include additional display driver circuitry for driving data lines from another peripheral housing edge to obviate the need to route around the recessed region. The data lines from the two display driver circuitries can be disconnected at random locations or can be interlaced to achieve spatial interleaving. The display driver circuitry may include demultiplexing circuitry having smaller switches coupled in parallel with larger demultiplexer routing switches to reduce voltage kick and charge injection.
