A substrate unit, which can be disposed opposite to a display panel, includes a substrate and a color filter layer. The substrate has a front surface and a rear surface. The rear surface is disposed adjacent to the display panel. The color filter layer is disposed on the rear surface or between the front surface and the rear surface. A display module and a display apparatus including the substrate unit are also disclosed.

Substrate unit, display module, and display apparatus

A backlight module includes a reflection sheet and a film structure disposed above the reflection sheet with a gap therebetween. A light source is disposed in the gap between the reflection sheet and the film structure so as to provide light. The film structure includes a first region for reflecting light incident thereupon from the light source and the reflection sheet, and a plurality of second regions for transmitting at least partially light incident thereupon from the light source and the reflection sheet.

A method for forming a flat panel display includes disposing a light guide plate below a display panel, disposing at least one optical film between the display panel and the light guide plate, and disposing at least one illuminating device package in proximity to the light guide plate. The method for forming the illuminating device package includes forming a light emitting diode device over a substrate and forming a lens encapsulating the light emitting diode device. The lens includes two reflective surfaces disposed substantially symmetrically at either side of a central axis. The reflective surfaces is configured to reflect portions of light beams to at least one of the diffractive surfaces. The lens also includes a plurality of diffractive surfaces separating the reflective surfaces. The diffractive surfaces are configured to diffract the reflected light beams into a convergent angle. Each of the diffractive surfaces having a tilt angle respective to the central axis.

Flat panel display

A light emitting diode (LED) package includes a base, a body and several LED chips. The body having an end surface is disposed on the base. A peripheral recess is formed in the end surface. The LED chips are disposed on a bottom of the peripheral recess for providing sidelight of the LED package. The LED package is connectable to a light guide pipe including a column having an external circumferential surface and an internal reflection surface, and a plurality of prism structures disposed between or on at least one of the external circumferential surface and the internal reflection surface for scattering light received by the light guide pipe from the LED package.

Light emitting diode package and light guide pipe and backlight module and liquid crystal display device using the same

A backlight module comprises a light guide plate and at least two light sources. The light guide plate is divided into at least two regions made up of a substrate and a plurality of elongate light guide elements disposed on a surface of the substrate and located in the regions. The light sources respectively correspond to the regions of the light guide plate to provide the elongate light guide elements in the regions with light.

Providing light guide elements in a backlight module

A flat panel display is provided. The flat panel display includes a display panel. A light guide plate is disposed below the display panel. At least one optical film is disposed between the display panel and the light guide plate. At least one illuminating device package is disposed in proximity to the side of the light guide plate. The illuminating device package includes an illuminating semiconductor device and a lens encapsulating the illuminating semiconductor device. The lens includes two reflective surfaces disposed at either side of a central axis. A plurality of diffractive surfaces are disposed between the reflective surfaces. Each of the diffractive surfaces has a tilt angle respective to the central axis. A first portion of light beams incident to each of the reflective surfaces is reflected to at least one diffractive surface and then diffracted and collected into a first convergent angle.

A backlight module includes a light box and multiple real light sources. The light box has an opening and a plurality of substantially parallel grooves recessed from a bottom surface thereof. Each of the slots has a reflection curved surface. A light source allocation line is defined between every two adjacent grooves. The light source allocation lines are parallel to the grooves. The sum of shortest distances between any point of the reflection curved surface and the two adjacent light source allocation lines is substantially the same. In addition, the real light sources are alternately allocated in the light source allocation lines. A part of light emitted from each light source is reflected from the reflection curved surface to the light source allocation line in which no light source is allocated. Thereby, a virtual light source is formed on the light source allocation line that does not contain a real light source.

Backlight module for LCD having reflective curved surfaces for forming virtual light sources

A direct-type backlight module includes a light-guide plate. The light-guide plate has a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The first surface has at least one first groove. The backlight module may also include at least one light source. The light source corresponds to the first groove so that light emitted from the light source is reflected by the first groove. One or more optical films may be disposed on the first surface of the light-guide plate and a reflector may be disposed below the second surface of the light-guide plate. With the light-guide plate in place, the overall thickness of the backlight module is reduced, and the lamp mura is avoided.

Direct-type backlight module

A light emitting diode package includes a light emitting diode device and a lens encapsulating the light emitting diode device. The lens includes two reflective surfaces disposed at either side of a central axis, and a plurality of diffractive surfaces disposed between the reflective surfaces and each of the diffractive surfaces has a tilt angle respective to the central axis. Portions of light beams incident to each of the reflective surfaces are reflected to at least one diffractive surface and are diffracted and collected into a convergent angle.

A planar light source device includes a substrate, a circuit layer and light sources. The substrate is penetrable to visible light and has a radiating surface and a second surface opposite the radiating surface. The circuit layer and the light sources are disposed on the second surface of the substrate, and the light sources are electrically connected to the circuit layer.

Planar light source device

A liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal panel having two substrates and a liquid crystal material sealed therebetween; a backlight module disposed under the liquid crystal panel; and a display case for housing the liquid crystal panel and the backlight module. The backlight module is a direct point-light type and comprises a plurality of point light sources, a reflector, a diffuser and a plurality of optical sheets. The reflector has a plurality of openings respectively positioned in relation to the point light sources such that the light provided by the point light sources can pass through the openings of the reflector and then reach the diffuser. The diffuser has a plurality of dot elements which are formed thereon and compose at least one of radially variable dot specific pattern. The radially variable dot specific pattern defines a center portion, and at least one of the point light sources is aligned relative to the center portion of the radially random dot specific pattern.
