In an access device associated with a first network cell, a method for enabling user equipment (UE) to obtain a service unavailable through the first network cell includes receiving a request for the UE to access the service, and identifying, in a message to the UE, a plurality of second network cells providing the service.

Method for accessing a service unavailable through a network cell

A method performed by user equipment (UE) includes receiving a request to access a service unavailable through a first network cell associated with the UE and informing a second network cell that the UE is requesting to obtain the service unavailable through the first network cell. The request may be received from a user of the UE or may be a paging message.

In some examples, a user equipment (UE) obtains a connectivity in a first cell, the connectivity comprising a first type of connection that provides access to services in a local data network. The UE camps on a second cell, determines if the connectivity is not supported in the second cell based on broadcast information from the second cell, the broadcast information comprising information of the second cell, and in response to determining that the connectivity is not supported in the second cell, disconnect the connectivity, wherein the disconnecting comprises sending a Non Access Stratum (NAS) message via the second cell.

Method and apparatus for releasing connection with local GW when UE moves out of the residential/enterprise network coverage

Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, an apparatus of a user equipment (UE), comprises one or more baseband processors to derive a dynamic scrambling key, and a memory to store the dynamic scrambling key and a temporary UE identifier (temporary UE ID) assigned to the UE. The one or more baseband processors monitor a paging request for a scrambled UE identifier (UE ID) to determine if the paging request is intended for the UE by unscrambling the scrambled UE ID with the dynamic scrambling key to produce the temporary UE ID. The paging request is intended for the UE if the temporary UE ID produced by unscrambling the scrambled UE ID matches the temporary UE ID stored in the memory. A new dynamic scrambling key may be derived each time the UE returns to a radio resource control idle (RRC_IDLE) state.

In some examples, a user equipment (UE) obtains a connectivity in a first cell, the connectivity identified by an access point name (APN), where the APN corresponds to a first type of connection, and where the first type of connection provides access to services in a local data network. The UE camps on a second cell, determines if the connectivity is not supported in the second cell based on broadcast information from the second cell, the broadcast information comprising information of the second cell, and in response to determining that the connectivity is not supported in the second cell, disconnect the connectivity, wherein the disconnecting comprises sending a Non Access Stratum (NAS) message via the second cell.

A method for initiating a Packet Switched emergency call using a user equipment (UE) is presented. The UE includes a plurality of protocol layers. The plurality of protocol layers including an IMS sublayer, a non-access stratum (NAS) layer and an access stratum (AS) layer. The method includes generating an ATTACH REQUEST using the UE. The ATTACH REQUEST has an attach type. The method includes retrieving the attach type of the ATTACH REQUEST using the NAS layer of the UE, and generating an RRC CONNECTION REQUEST. System and method for determining establishment causes for emergency sessions

A mobility management node in A core network receives a first Non Access Stratum (NAS) message via a second network element from a user equipment (UE), wherein the mobility management node stores a first identifying characteristic associated with at least one of a Local IP Access (LIPA) packet data network (PDN) connection or a selected IP traffic offload (SIPTO) PDN connection, the at least one of the LIPA PDN connection or the SIPTO PDN connection being via a first network element and for the UE. The mobility management node detects that the UE is connected to the second network element that is different from the first network element that has the first identifying characteristic, and in response to a condition that each PDN connection of the UE is a LIPA PDN connection or a SIPTO PDN connection, sends a second NAS message, the second NAS message including a cause code with a value that represents 'No EPS Bearer Context Activated.'

Methods and apparatus to manage voice service in evolved packet systems are disclosed. An example method in a User Equipment (UE) with a first indicator related to voice services in an Evolved Packet System (EPS) comprises receiving a Non Access Stratum (NAS) protocol response message with a second indicator and responsive to at least one of the first indicator or the second indicator, determining availability of voice services over IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) in at least one of long term evolution (LTE) or global system for mobile communications edge radio access network (GERAN)/universal mobile telecommunications system terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN).

In some examples, a method in a core network communicatively connected with a first radio access network (RAN) comprising a first network element, and a second RAN comprising a second network element, includes receiving a first Non Access Stratum (NAS) message via the second network element from a User Equipment (UE), where the UE has, with the first network element, a selected IP traffic offload (SIPTO) PDN connection. The mobility management node detects that the UE is connected to the second network element that is different from the first network element that has a first identifying characteristic, where the detecting comprises determining that the first NAS message is received with a second identifying characteristic of the second network element different from the first identifying characteristic associated with the SIPTO PDN connection.
