An encoder includes circuitry and memory. The circuitry, in operation, generates a first coefficient value by applying a CCALF (cross component adaptive loop filtering) process to a first reconstructed image sample of a luma component. The circuitry generates a second coefficient value by applying an ALF (adaptive loop filtering) process to a second reconstructed image sample of a chroma component. The circuitry generates a third coefficient value by adding the first coefficient value to the second coefficient value, and encodes a third reconstructed image sample of the chroma component using the third coefficient value. The circuitry determines a first parameter having the same value for Cb component and Cr component of the chroma component. The circuitry determines, using the first parameter, a model of entropy coding from a plurality of models. The circuitry performs, using the model, the entropy coding of a second parameter of the CCALF process.

System and method for video coding

An encoder includes circuitry and memory. The circuitry determines whether a first virtual pipeline decoding unit (VPDU) is split into smaller blocks and whether a second VPDU is split into smaller blocks. In response to a determination the first VPDU is not split into smaller blocks and a determination the second VPDU is split into smaller blocks, a block of chroma samples is predicted without using luma samples. In response to a determination the first VPDU is split into smaller blocks and a determination the second VPDU is split into smaller blocks, the block of chroma samples is predicted using luma samples. In response to a determination the first VPDU is not split into smaller blocks and a determination the second VPDU is not split into smaller block, the block of chroma samples is predicted using luma samples. The block is encoded using the predicted chroma samples.

An encoder includes circuitry and memory coupled to the circuitry. The circuitry, in response to a first reconstructed image sample being located outside a virtual boundary, duplicates a reconstructed sample located inside and adjacent to the virtual boundary to generate the first reconstructed image sample. The circuitry generates a first coefficient value by applying a CCALF (cross component adaptive loop filtering) process to the first reconstructed image sample of a luma component. The circuitry generates a second coefficient value by applying an ALF (adaptive loop filtering) process to a second reconstructed image sample of a chroma component. An encoder includes circuitry which generates a first coefficient value by applying a CCALF process to a first reconstructed image sample of a luma component; generates a second coefficient value by applying an ALF process to a second reconstructed image sample of a chroma component; generates a third coefficient value by adding the first coefficient value to the second coefficient value; and encodes a third reconstructed image sample of the chroma component using the third coefficient value. The circuitry writes a first parameter into a sequence parameter set; writes a second parameter into a parameter set of a picture in response to a value of the first parameter being 1; writes a third parameter into a slice header in response to the value of the first parameter being 1; and writes a fourth parameter into a coding tree unit in response to a value of the third parameter being 1.

A decoder includes circuitry which, in operation, parses a first flag indicating whether a CCALF (cross component adaptive loop filtering) process is enabled for a first block located adjacent to a left side of a current block; parses a second flag indicating whether the CCALF process is enabled for a second block located adjacent to an upper side of the current block; determines a first index associated with a color component of the current block; and derives a second index indicating a context model, using the first flag, the second flag, and the first index. The circuitry, in operation, performs entropy decoding of a third flag indicating whether the CCALF process is enabled for the current block, using the context model indicated by the second index; and performs the CCALF process on the current block in response to the third flag indicating the CCALF process is enabled for the current block.

An encoder includes circuitry and memory coupled to the circuitry. The circuitry determines whether to split a current luma virtual pipeline decoding unit (VPDU) into smaller blocks. When it is determined not to split the current luma VPDU into smaller blocks, the circuitry predicts a block of chroma samples without using luma samples. When it is determined to split the luma VPDU into smaller blocks, the circuitry predicts the block of chroma samples using luma samples. The circuitry encodes the block using the predicted chroma samples.

An encoder includes circuitry and memory coupled to the circuitry. The circuitry, in operation, generates a first coefficient value by applying a CCALF (cross component adaptive loop filtering) process to a first reconstructed image sample of a luma component, and generates a second coefficient value by applying an ALF (adaptive loop filtering) process to a second reconstructed image sample of a chroma component. The circuitry modifies the first coefficient value by performing an arithmetic right shift by 7 bits on the first coefficient value. The circuitry generates a third coefficient value by adding the modified first coefficient value to the second coefficient value, and encodes a third reconstructed image sample of the chroma component using the third coefficient value.

A decoder includes memory and a processor coupled to the memory and configured to: generate a first coefficient value by applying a CCALF (cross component adaptive loop filtering) process to a first reconstructed image sample of a luma component; clip the first coefficient value such that the clipped first coefficient value is within a first range from −2to 2−1; generate a second coefficient value by applying an ALF (adaptive loop filtering) process to a second reconstructed image sample of a chroma component; clip the second coefficient value such that the clipped second coefficient value is within a second range different from the first range; generate a third coefficient value by adding the clipped first coefficient value to the clipped second coefficient value; and generate a third reconstructed image sample of the chroma component using the third coefficient value.

Decoder, decoding method, and related non-transitory computer readable medium

An encoder includes circuitry and memory coupled to the circuitry. The circuitry encodes second information indicating whether first information is present in a bitstream, the first information being regarding a subpicture which is a rectangular region in a picture, the picture including slices, and when the second information indicates that the first information is present in the bitstream, each of the slices is a rectangular slice and has a subpicture index indicating a subpicture to which the slice belongs.

An encoder that encodes a current block to be encoded in an image is provided. The encoder includes: processor; and memory coupled to the processor, in which, in operation, the processor: generates a first prediction image based on a motion vector, the first prediction image being an image with full-pel precision; generates a second prediction image using an interpolation filter by interpolating a value at a fractional-pel position between full-pel positions included in the first prediction image; and encodes the current block based on the second prediction image, and in the using of the interpolation filter, the interpolation filter is switched between a first interpolation filter and a second interpolation filter differing in a total number of taps from the first interpolation filter.

In operation, the circuitry: encodes information for deriving a parameter into a header of a bitstream; filters reconstructed samples in a first image using a filtering process, to generate a second image; determines whether the parameter has a predefined value; encodes a third image using the second image when the parameter has the predefined value; and encodes the third image using the first image when the parameter does not have the predefined value.
