Provided is a method for video decoding including: receiving a control variable enabling adaptive switch between motion vector refinement (MVR) offset sets; receiving an indication variable enabling adaptive switch between codeword tables that binarize offset magnitudes in the MVR offset sets under the coding level; partitioning the video block into a first and a second geometric partition; selecting an MVR offset set based on the control variable; receiving syntax elements to determine a first and second MVR offsets applied to the first and second geometric partitions from the selected MVR offset set; obtaining a first and second MVs from a candidate list for the first and the second geometric partition; calculating a first and second refined MVs based on the first and second MVs and the first and second MVR offsets; and obtaining prediction samples based on the first and second refined MVs.

Methods and devices for geometric partition mode with motion vector refinement

Methods for video decoding and encoding, apparatuses and non-transitory storage media are provided. In one decoding method, the decoder obtains a first geometric partition mode (GPM) part and a second GPM part for a coding unit (CU). The decoder disables template matching (TM) based GPM split modes reordering for multiple GPM split modes that are applied to the CU in response to determining that the first GPM part or the second GPM part is predicted with intra prediction. Furthermore, the decoder enables the TM based GPM split modes reordering for the multiple GPM split modes in response to determining that both the first GPM part and the second GPM part are predicted with inter prediction.

Methods and devices for geometric partitioning mode with split modes reordering

Method and devices are provided for video coding. In the method, a decoder obtains a cross-component sample adaptive offset (CCSAO) quantization associated with an offset quantization control syntax and a quantization step size that are predefined or indicated by an encoder at at least one level. Furthermore, the decoder obtains a CCSAO based on the CCSAO quantization and adds the CCSAO to a reconstructed sample for prediction.

A method and an apparatus for image filtering in video coding using a neural network are provided. The method includes: loading, a plurality of quantization parameter (QP) map (QpMap) values at a plurality of QpMap channels into the neural network; obtaining a QP scaling factor by adjusting a plurality of input QP values related to an input frame; and adjusting, according to a QP scaling factor, the plurality of QpMap values for the neural network to learn and filter the input frame to the neural network.

Coding enhancement in cross-component sample adaptive offset

Methods, apparatuses, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media are provided for video coding. In one method, a decoder derives a first and a second reference pictures for a current coding block; the decoder derives a first and a second predictor samples based on a motion vector associated with the first reference picture using a motion compensation process from the first reference picture; the decoder determines whether the first and the second predictor samples are out-of-boundary (OOB), and in response to determining the first or the second predictor sample is OOB, the decoder replaces the first or the second predictor sample that is OOB with a first or a second alternative predictor sample; and the decoder generates the final prediction sample by averaging sample values of the first predictor sample and the second predictor sample.

Motion compensation considering out-of-boundary conditions in video coding

Implementations of the disclosure provide a video decoding apparatus and method for transform coefficient sign prediction on a video decoder side. The method may include selecting a set of candidate transform coefficients from dequantized transform coefficients. The method may include applying a template-based hypothesis generation scheme to select a hypothesis from a plurality of candidate hypotheses for the set of candidate transform coefficients. The method may include determining a combination of sign candidates associated with the selected hypothesis to be a set of predicted signs for the set of candidate transform coefficients. The method may include estimating original signs for the set of candidate transform coefficients based on the set of predicted signs and a sequence of sign signaling bits received from a video encoder. The method may include updating the dequantized transform coefficients based on the estimated original signs for the set of candidate transform coefficients.

Sign prediction for block-based video coding

Implementations of the disclosure provide video processing apparatuses and methods for inter-prediction. A video processing method for the inter-prediction performed by a video decoder includes determining a reference index for a video block in a video frame of a video from a bitstream. The video processing method also includes generating a joint list including a plurality pairs of reference pictures based on a first reference list and a second reference list for the video block. The video processing method further includes reordering the plurality pairs of reference pictures in the joint list based on bilateral matching using one or more motion vectors of the video block to generate a reordered joint list. The video processing method further includes performing the inter-prediction on the video block based on the reordered joint list and the reference index.

Methods, apparatuses, and non-transitory computer-readable storage mediums are provided for video decoding. In one method, a decoder receives a Sequence Parameter Set (SPS) rice extension flag that indicates whether an extension of rice parameter derivation for binarization of abs_remainder and dec_abs_level is enabled. In a second method, the decoder may receive a Sequence Parameter Set (SPS) rice adaption enabled flag that indicates whether rice parameter derivation for binarization of abs_remainder and dec_abs_level is used.

Residual and coefficients coding for video coding

Implementations of the disclosure provide a video processing method for performing intra prediction on a video block. The video processing method may include receiving reconstructed samples from a video frame in the bitstream including the video block. The video processing method may further include determining reference samples in neighboring video blocks of the video block according to a first slant line and a second slant line through a sample of the video block. The first slant line is along an interpolation direction and the second slant line is perpendicular to the first slant line. The video processing method may also include interpolating the sample of the video block based on the reference samples.

Planar mode improvement for intra prediction

An electronic apparatus performs a method of decoding video data. The method includes: receiving, from the video data, an Adaptation Parameter Set (APS) identifier associated with a number of previously used Cross-Component Sample Adaptive Offset (CCSAO) filter offset sets stored in APS; receiving, from the video data, a syntax in Picture Header (PH) or Slice Header (SH) that indicates the APS identifier used for a current picture or slice; decoding, for the current coding tree unit (CTU), a filter set index that indicates a particular previously used CCSAO filter offset set of the number of offset sets in the APS associated with the APS identifier; and applying the particular previously used CCSAO filter offset set to the current CTU of the video data.
