Methods and compositions related to TR4 ligand

The present invention relates to compounds capable of acting as androgen receptor antagonists, pharmaceutical formulations containing the same, and methods of use thereof. Such uses include, but are not limited to, use as antitumor agents, particularly for the treatment of cancers such as colon, skin and prostate cancer and to induce androgen receptor antagonist activity in a subject afflicted with an androgen-related affliction. Examples of androgen-related afflictions include, but are not limited to, baldness, hirsutism, behavioral disorders, acne, and uninhibited spermatogenesis wherein inhibition of spermatogenesis is so desired.

Curcumin analogues and uses thereof

Disclosed are androgen receptor-associated proteins, designated ARA24, ARA54, ARA55, and Rb, that have been demonstrated to interact with the androgen receptor to alter levels of androgen receptor-mediated transcriptional activation. Certain of these proteins interact with the androgen receptor in an androgen-dependent manner, whereas certain proteins may induce transcriptional activation in the presence of other ligands, such as E2 or HF. Also disclosed is a method of detecting androgenic or antiandrogenic activity using these proteins in a mammalian two-hybrid transient transfection assay.

Androgen receptor coactivators

A ligand dependent co-activator for the human androgen receptor has been identified. The co-activator, named here ARA.sub.70, potentiates interaction between androgens and the receptor. The co-activator is useful as a tool in monitoring the androgenic/antiandrogenic effects of possible pharmaceuticals as well as environmental samples. The cDNA for co-activator has been cloned and sequenced.
