The present invention relates to a polymerisation process, comprising: a) supplying a feed containing ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin having 3 to 12 carbon atoms in a hydrocarbon solvent to a polymerisation reactor, b) contacting the feed of step a) in the reactor with a catalyst to form a reaction mixture containing an ethylene-alpha-olefin co-polymer, whereby the average residence time in the reactor is chosen to be between 0.5 and 30 minutes, c) withdrawing the reaction mixture from the polymerisation reactor as a reactor outlet stream which comprises the ethylene-alpha-olefin co-polymer, unreacted monomer, catalyst, and hydrocarbon solvent, and d) separating hydrocarbon solvent, monomer and comonomer from the reactor outlet stream and recycling it back to the polymerisation reactor without further purification steps, wherein in step c) no more than 5 wt. % of catalyst in an active state is leaving the reactor.

Process for the polymerization of olefins in solution with controlled activity of catalyst in reactor outlet stream

The present invention is concerned with a screening assembly comprising a separating device connected to a conduit for an effluent stream comprising a polymer and a mixture of hydrocarbons, wherein the separating device is configured to separate the effluent stream into a polymer-rich stream and a polymer-lean vapor stream, wherein the first separation device comprises an inlet, a first outlet for withdrawing a polymer-rich stream, and a second outlet for withdrawing a polymer-lean vapor stream, a screening device connected to the separating device via a conduit for the polymer-lean vapor stream, wherein the screening device comprises a first inlet connected to the conduit for the polymer-lean vapor stream, a first outlet for withdrawing a cleaned vapor stream, a second outlet for withdrawing a polymer-comprising condensed vapor stream, and at least one second inlet for introducing a condensed vapor stream.

Screening assembly and process for screening polymer from an effluent stream at reduced levels of polymer entrainment

The disclosure relates to a polymerization process. The polymerization process comprises polymerizing an olefin monomer and a comonomer in the presence of a polymerization catalyst in a polymerization step conducted in a polymerization reactor in a solvent to produce a solution comprising a polymer of the olefin monomer and the comonomer. The polymerization process comprises withdrawing an exhaust stream of the solution from the polymerization reactor in a withdrawing step. The polymerization process comprises separating the exhaust stream to a first primary stream and a primary concentrated solution stream in a first primary separation step, wherein the first primary stream comprises hydrocarbons and polymer. The polymerization process comprises separating the first primary stream to a second primary stream and a third primary stream in a second primary separation step, wherein the second primary stream comprises dissolved polymer and the third primary stream comprises majority of the hydrocarbons. The polymerization process comprises cooling the third primary stream to a temperature of −80 to 20° C. in a primary cooling step to obtain a cooled third primary stream. The polymerization process comprises separating the cooled third primary stream to a fourth primary stream and a fifth primary stream in a third primary separation step, wherein the fourth primary stream comprises hydrocarbons in vapour phase and the fifth primary stream comprises liquid hydrocarbons. The polymerization process comprises returning the fourth primary stream and the fifth primary stream independently in a primary returning step to a location upstream of the polymerization reactor.
