A fuel nozzle includes a center body that extends from an upstream end to a downstream end. A nozzle tip, which is fixedly coupled to the downstream end of the center body, includes an outer annular wall that has a forward end and an aft end. A solid aft wall is disposed at the aft end of the outer annular wall. The solid aft wall and the outer annular wall at least partially define a plenum. A nozzle portion, which is disposed within the plenum, includes an inner annular wall and an impingement wall. The impingement wall is spaced apart from the solid aft wall and defines a plurality of apertures configured to direct fluid to impinge upon the solid aft wall. A plurality of outlets is defined in the outer annular wall forward of the solid aft wall to direct post-impingement fluid from the nozzle tip.

An insert for an impingement plate and an impingement plate including the insert are disclosed. The impingement plate includes a plurality of cooling holes therein. The insert includes a body including an opening extending longitudinally therethrough. The body also includes a discharge end configured for positioning in an impingement air plenum between the impingement plate and an upstream surface of a combustor cap plate; a flexible insertion end configured for insertion into a respective cooling hole of the plurality of cooling holes; and a fixation element between the discharge end and the flexible insertion end. The fixation element has an outer dimension configured to fixedly couple the body in the respective cooling hole.

A combustor cap assembly, combustor and related method are disclosed. The combustor cap assembly includes: an impingement plate defining a plurality of impingement cooling holes with a first side of the impingement plate in fluid communication with a cooling air plenum. The assembly also includes a combustor cap plate coupled to the impingement plate, such that an impingement air plenum is defined between a second side of the impingement plate and the combustor cap plate. Tubes extend from at least a portion of the plurality of impingement cooling holes at the second side of the impingement plate and extend partially towards the combustor cap plate through the impingement air plenum. The plurality of impingement cooling holes provides for fluid communication between the cooling air plenum and the impingement air plenum through the tubes.

An injection assembly for a gas turbine combustor having a liner defining a combustion zone and a secondary combustion zone and a forward casing circumferentially surrounding at least a portion of the liner is provided. The injection assembly includes a thimble assembly and an injector unit. The thimble assembly, which is mounted to the liner, includes a thimble that extends through a thimble aperture in the liner. The injector unit, which is mounted to and extends through the forward casing, includes an injector blade that extends into the thimble. The injection assembly introduces a flow of fuel into a flow of air flowing through the thimble, such that fuel and air are injected into the secondary combustion zone in a direction transverse to a flow of combustion products from the primary combustion zone.

Fuel injection assemblies for axial fuel staging in gas turbine combustors

A gas turbine combustor includes: a head end comprising a primary fuel nozzle; a liner defining a primary combustion zone proximate the head end and a downstream secondary combustion zone; a forward casing radially outward of and surrounding at least a portion of the liner; and an axial fuel staging system. The axial fuel staging system includes a plurality of fuel injection assemblies. Each fuel injection assembly includes a thimble assembly mounted to the liner, and an injector unit attached to the forward casing. A thimble of the thimble assembly extends through a thimble aperture in the liner. The injector unit extends through the forward casing, such that a portion of the injector unit is disposed within the thimble, and a fuel line fitting is disposed outward of the forward casing. The injector unit introduces fuel into air flowing through the thimble for injection into the secondary combustion zone.

Axial fuel staging system for gas turbine combustors

A thimble assembly, which directs fluid flow through a combustor liner, includes a thimble boss and a thimble. The thimble boss is mounted an outer surface of the liner and surrounds a liner opening, thus defining a thimble boss passage. The thimble is disposed through the passage and the liner opening. The thimble wall extends from an inlet portion to an outlet of the thimble. The inlet portion has a greater diameter than the outlet and defines an inlet plane and a parallel intermediate plane. A terminal plane, parallel to the intermediate plane, includes an array of points most distant from a corresponding array of points defining the intermediate plane. The thimble wall has a non-uniform length, such that the outlet of the thimble is oriented at an oblique angle relative to the terminal plane. The thimble wall may have an arcuate shape defined as one-fourth of an ellipse.

Thimble assemblies for introducing a cross-flow into a secondary combustion zone

An annular sealing device having a positive stop to prevent over pressurization on the sealing device. The annular sealing device includes a substantially rigid support member having at least one substantially flat outer surface portion. There is a generally round cavity formed in the substantially rigid support member adjacent the at least one substantially flat outer surface. This generally round cavity has a first predetermined diameter and a predetermined depth. A generally round elastomeric sealing member having a predetermined thickness and a second predetermined diameter is disposed in the generally round cavity. Elastomeric sealing member has a substantially flat face engageable with a predetermined surface to be sealed. A stop means is engageable with at least a portion of the substantially flat outer surface portion of the substantially rigid support member for preventing undue penetration of the surface to be sealed into the generally round elastomeric sealing member.

Annular sealing device having a positive stop means for use in a valve member

An air inlet valve assembly for a rotary scroll compressor is disclosed. The rotary scroll compressor includes stationary and orbiting scroll elements which are intermeshed and nested to form at least one spiraling compression pocket therebetween, a drive mechanism drives the orbiting scroll element in an orbit about the stationary scroll element, and an anti-rotation bearing device maintains the orbiting scroll element substantially non-rotational with respect to the stationary scroll element. The air inlet valve assembly supplies an uncompressed gas (e.g., ambient air) to the compression apparatus and prevents backward rotation of the orbiting scroll element when power to the drive mechanism is terminated. The air inlet valve assembly includes a valve piston positioned within an air intake channel leading to the suction region of the rotary scroll compressor, the valve piston having a first position blocking the air intake channel and a second position unblocking the air intake channel. A valve stem member is connected to a valve housing, the valve housing enclosed a valve cavity wherein the valve piston is located, the valve piston coacts with a valve seat formed on the valve housing, and stop surfaces are provided on the valve piston and the valve stem to limit movement of the valve piston toward the suction region of the rotary scroll compressor.

Oiless rotary scroll air compressor air inlet valve

A crankshaft assembly for a scroll compressor. The scroll compressor includes intermeshed and nested stationary and orbiting scroll elements which define at least one spiraling compression pocket therebetween and an orbital drive mechanism for driving the central axis of the orbiting scroll element about the central axis of the stationary scroll element while maintaining the orbiting scroll element substantially non-rotational with respect to the stationary scroll element. The crankshaft assembly of the orbital drive mechanism includes a crankshaft member having an elongated shaft portion for rotation about a central axis of rotation and an orbiting rotational bearing affixed to a first distal end of the crankshaft member. The center of rotation of the orbiting rotational bearing is radially offset with respect to the central axis of rotation of the crankshaft member and is adapted to accept and rotationally engage a hub portion projecting from the orbiting scroll element. Preferably, the orbiting rotational bearing is disposed within a recessed cup portion integrally formed on the first distal end of the crankshaft member, and a lubricating channel extends from an exterior surface of a second distal end of the crankshaft member to permit a lubricating agent such as grease to be injected. The crankshaft assembly additionally preferably includes main bearing and rear bearing components.

Oiless rotary scroll air compressor crankshaft assembly

A lubrication apparatus for an anti-rotation assembly of an oiless rotary scroll compressor is disclosed. The scroll compressor includes a stationary scroll element and an orbiting scroll element which orbits about the stationary scroll element in a non-rotational fashion. At least one anti-rotation assembly is provided for preventing relative rotation between the orbiting and stationary scroll elements. The anti-rotation assembly, which includes a first rotational bearing component mounted on the interior of the housing, a second rotational bearing component mounted on the orbiting scroll element and an offset crank member interconnecting the first and second rotational bearing components, is lubricated via a lubrication channel. The lubrication channel extends from a lubrication port disposed on the exterior of the housing, through the first rotational bearing component, thereafter through a channel provided in the offset crank member, thus allowing the lubricating agent (e.g., grease) to reach the second rotational bearing component. The provided anti-rotation assembly can thus be periodically lubricated without significant contact between the lubricating agent and the gas being compressed (e.g., air or refrigerant). Accordingly, any possible contamination of the exiting compressed gas is significantly reduced.

Oiless rotary scroll air compressor antirotation lubrication mechanism

An axial load resistant anti-rotation bearing for a rotary scroll compressor is disclosed. The rotary scroll compressor includes stationary and orbiting scroll elements and a drive mechanism for driving the orbiting scroll element in an orbit about the stationary scroll element. The stationary and orbiting scroll elements are intermeshed and nested to form at least one spiraling compression pocket therebetween. The at least one compression pocket generates forces which tend to force the stationary and orbiting scroll elements apart in a direction parallel to their central axes. The axial load resistant anti-rotation bearing disclosed resists such axial separating forces and employs two rotational bearing components, a first rotational bearing component mounted on the interior of the compressor housing and a second rotational bearing component mounted on the orbiting scroll element. At least one, and preferably both, of the rotational bearing components are designed such that they include a bearing surface which projects a nonzero component in the direction of the central axes of the stationary and orbiting scroll elements. At least one, and preferably both, of the rotational bearing components are of the angular contact bearing type.

Oilers rotary scroll air compressor axial loading support for orbiting member

An anti-rotation device for a scroll compressor. The scroll compressor includes intermeshed and nested stationary and orbiting scroll elements which define at least one spiraling compression pocket therebetween and an orbital drive mechanism for driving the central axis of the orbiting scroll element about the central axis of the stationary scroll element. The anti-rotation device maintains the orbiting scroll element substantially non-rotational with respect to the stationary scroll element during its orbit thereabout and includes at least one anti-rotation bearing which includes a first bearing element mounted stationary with respect to the stationary scroll element, a second bearing element mounted on the orbiting scroll element and an offset crank member. The offset crank member has a first shaft portion rotatably engaging the first bearing element and a second shaft portion which is radially offset from the first shaft portion by a distance equal to the radius of orbit, is parallel thereto and rotatably engages the second bearing element. Preferably, the first and second bearing elements are rotational bearing components, the second shaft portion of the offset crank member non-rotatably engages, via a conically tapered fitting, a bushing member, which itself rotationally engages the second rotational bearing component, and at least three such anti-rotation bearings are disposed at equal angular displacements (e.g., 120&deg;) about the central axis of the scroll compressor.

Oiless rotary scroll air compressor antirotation assembly

A shuttle valve for a gas drying system that cleans and dries a stream of unpurified pressurized gas received from a source thereof and supplied to a pneumatic system that uses such a purified pressurized air. The valve includes a housing that connects a drying assembly to a structure that conveys the unpurified pressurized air to the drying assembly. The housing contains a choke disc provided with an orifice and a movable piston located in axial alignment with the choke disc. When the unpurified pressurized air is directed into the drying assembly for drying, the piston moves away from the choke disc to permit dry air to freely flow from the drying assembly and through the valve to the system utilizing purified pressurized air.

Shuttle valve for twin tower air dryer

A low profile valve for discharging pressurized air to a system for utilizing such pressurized air. The valve includes a housing for mounting in or to an associated structure, and has at least one opening through which pressurized air is directed to and from the valve. A piston is located in the housing for axial movement therein, and the piston has a face portion containing a seal for sealing the piston against a fixed surface of the associated structure. In addition, a spring can be located about the piston for biasing the piston in the direction of the fixed surface.

Low profile discharge check valve

A twin tower gas drying system for cleaning and drying a stream of unpurified pressurized gas received from a source thereof for use of a pneumatic system. The drying system includes a manifold block provided with the plurality of ports. A separator and sump is connected to such block and to one of the ports for initially separating moisture and particulates from such stream of unpurified gas, and for directing the remainder of the stream to the one port in the block. A pair of desiccant containing canisters are threadably mounted on a surface of the block opposite that of the separator and sump by two respective threaded shuttle valves. The canisters and shuttle valves are, in addition, connected in fluid communication with certain of the ports provided in the block for supplying and removing pressurized air from the canisters. A port is provided for discharging dry clean air from the block. Other ports provided in the block exhaust purged air to the atmosphere. And, two ports are provided in the sump for respectively releasing liquid collected in the sump and for admitting pressurize air from a compressor.
