The invention includes a method of synchronizing objects between first and second object stores. A synchronization manager in accordance with the invention maintains a reference store containing identifying data segments corresponding respectively to a plurality of objects that have previously been synchronized between the first and second object stores. An application program that maintains the first object store has associated interfaces that allow the synchronization manager to compare and manipulate objects. One such interface allows the synchronization manager to submit an identifying data segment associated with a particular object. In response, this interface returns a handle that corresponds to the submitted identifying data segment. Another interface accepts a handle that refers to an identifying data segment, and determines if the object corresponding to the identifying data segment has been changed in the first object store since the last synchronization. If it has, the synchronization manager takes steps to update the second object store. If, on the other hand, the object has changed in the second object store, application program interfaces allow the synchronization manager to update the object in the first object store. Objects are transferred through the synchronization manager in an arbitrary, application-specific format that is not determined or understood by the synchronization manager itself.

Object synchronization between object stores on different computers

A synchronization system synchronizes objects between a portable computer and a desktop computer. The portable computer is capable of communicating with a storage volume that can become inaccessible to the portable computer. The system identifies storage volumes currently available to the portable computer and identifies storage volumes previously accessible to the potable computer, but not currently accessible to the portable computer. Objects contained in storage volumes that are currently accessible to the portable computer are then synchronized between the base computer and the portable computer. During the synchronization process, the system ignores objects stored on volumes that are not currently accessible to the portable computer.

System and method for synchronizing objects between two devices

A synchronization system synchronizes objects between a portable computer and a desktop computer. The portable computer is capable of communicating with a storage volume that can become inaccessible to the portable computer. The system identifies storage volumes currently available to the portable computer and identifies storage volumes previously accessible to the portable computer, but not currently accessible to the portable computer. Objects contained in storage volumes that are currently accessible to the portable computer are then synchronized between the base computer and the portable computer. During the synchronization process, the system ignores objects stored on volumes that are not currently accessible to the portable computer. However, the system continues to monitor and record changes to objects stored on volumes that are not currently accessible to the portable computer. When a storage volume that was previously inaccessible becomes accessible, the system synchronizes objects stored on the previously inaccessible storage volume. The objects may be databases or other data structures. The storage volume that can become inaccessible to the portable computer is typically a removable memory card that can be inserted into the portable computer.

System and method of synchronizing objects between two devices

A computer program for removing duplicate objects from an object store. The program allows the user to select which properties of the objects will be compared to determine equivalence. These properties are then read and a signature number is calculated based on the values of the those properties, using the cyclic redundancy code. Prior to the calculation of the signature, special cases are accounted for by modifying the properties. Such special cases can include: missing critical properties which can be calculated, text field formatting and leading and lagging spaces, order of attachments, order of categories, name properties, and recurring appointments. Once the signature values are calculated, objects with the same signature are, by definition, equivalent by the properties the user selected. Prior to discarding all but one of the equivalent objects, the program can check whether the object contains a link. As between two equivalent objects, the one with the link should be retained.

Removing duplicate objects from an object store

A tissue dispenser for dispensing facial tissues and the like is described. The tissue dispenser includes a box-like structure having four sides, a top cover and a bottom cover. The top cover has an opening for enabling removal of tissues contained in the boxlike structure. A fastener is provided for releaseably fastening the top cover to at least one of the four sides. An attachment mechanism is secured to the bottom cover for attaching the tissue dispenser to a support surface.

Object synchronization between objects stores on different computers

Disclosed are methods of searching a list or table of objects during synchronization between first and second object stores. One of the first and second object stores can be a previous synchronization state table. Using the method, a list of objects to be searched for changes and deletions is obtained during synchronization. The list of objects is then searched using as a search parameter an object signature determined as a function of particular properties associated with a particular object. Also disclosed are a computer system which implements the methods of the present invention, and a computer readable medium having computer executable instructions for performing the steps of the methods.

Use of object signature property as a search parameter during synchronization of objects on a computer

A synchronization system synchronizes objects between a portable computer and a desktop computer. Prior to synchronization, the system selects objects to be synchronized between the two computers. A synchronization manager in the portable computer calls an object identification function which identifies a volume that is accessible to the portable computer. The object identification function also identifies objects that are associated with the identified volume and that have been modified since previously synchronizing the identified volume. The object identification function then identifies the identified objects to the synchronization manager, which is able to synchronize the identified objects between the portable computer and the desktop computer. The identification of objects is performed for each accessible volume in the portable computer. The system also provides for the communication of arbitrary data between the portable computer and the desktop computer during a synchronization process. The desktop computer requests communication of a particular set of data between the two computers. The particular set of data is not associated with the pre-defined data exchanged during the synchronization process. The set of data is then communicated between the two computers as requested during the synchronization process.

Object identification and data communication during an object synchronization process

A sheet material dispenser box holder, such as a cosmetic tissue box holder, is made of elastic cord or strap material in a woven fish-net pattern forming a bag shaped container closed at the top except for an access opening for easy placement of a tissue box inside the box holder. Attachment means are fastened to the box holder for securing the box holder in a desired position on a support surface whereby it will remain reliably in any attitude of a vehicle or other surface to which it is mounted and readily allowing removal of individual tissue sheets.

First and second computing devices each contain an object store which store objects indicative of file data. Synchronization components are provided to synchronize the objects while efficiently overcoming problems associated with synchronizing files.
