Systems and methods according to the present invention provide a control framework for organizing, selecting and launching media items including graphical user interfaces coupled with an optional 3D control device for collection of the basic control primitives of point, click, scroll, hover and zoom which permit for easy and rapid selection of media items, e.g., movies, songs etc., from large or small collections. The remote control maps natural hand movements and gestures into relevant commands while the graphical display uses images, zooming for increased/decreased levels of detail and continuity of GUI objects to provide easy organization, selection and navigation among the media items by a user.

Methods and systems for enhancing television applications using 3D pointing

Methods and apparatus compensating for background noise associated with a transmitted signal. In a first embodiment, an adder combines an echo estimate with the the transmitted signal to form a processed signal, a noise reduction circuit uses a background noise estimate to subtract the background noise from the processed signal, and a non-linear processor uses the background noise estimate to combine a compensating background noise signal with the proccssed signal. In another embodiment, the noise reduction circuit divides the processed signal into sub-bands. With variations of an embodiment, the nonlinear processor is a sub-band non-linear processor, the processed signal is divided into sub-bands, and the background estimate includes sub-band noise estimates.

A system and associated method for the synchronization and control of multiplexed payloads over a telecommunications network wherein the asynchronous timing relationships between multiplexed payloads having varied points of origin are retained subsequent to signal processing of the payloads for further transmission to a destination point. System modules 22 include a network interface section 30, a synchronization, multiplexing and control (SMC) section 50, and a processing section 110. The SMC section 50 includes network interface bus circuitry, payload segmentation and re-assembly circuitry, control and management memory and related circuitry, payload re-assembly circuitry, and processor bus interface circuitry. The processing section of module 22 provides device for data compression, echo cancellation, error correction coding, or voice and data encryption/decryption. The module 22 is dynamically configured through a software management and control interface. The software permits dynamic loading of module 22 control logic and provides inband interpretation of performance statistics. Differing sets of control parameters are supplied to the module 22 as dictated by the interpretation of network performance parameters, or through operator supplied modifications. Operator modifications are preferably facilitated through an attached GUI (Graphical User Interface) and associated input devices such as a keyboard and/or mouse.

An parametric speech codec; such as a CELP, RELP, or VSELP codec; is integrated with an echo canceler to provide the functions of parametric speech encoding, decoding, and echo cancellation in a single unit. The echo canceler includes a convolution processor or transversal filter that is connected to receive the synthesized parametric components, or codebook basis functions, of respective send and receive signals being decoded and encoded by respective decoding and encoding processors. The convolution processor produces and estimated echo signal for subtraction from the send signal. In order to process the synthesized parametric components having distinct basis functions in the convolution processor, conversion means are provided for providing the receive-side parametric component to the processor, or for providing the estimated echo signal, in terms of the send-side parameter. Plural convolution processors are provided for processing respective parametric components of the desired coding scheme.
