Various embodiments of balanced armature receivers are disclosed, where the receiver includes a yoke which retains permanent magnets, a coil assembly having a coil tunnel, and an armature coupled to the yoke, with a movable portion extending through the coil tunnel and an end portion that is free to deflect between the magnets when an excitation signal is applied to the coil assembly. There are a stationary protrusion which extends from the stationary portion of the receiver toward the movable portion of the armature, and a movable protrusion which extends from the movable portion of the armature toward the stationary portion of the receiver. The stationary and movable protrusions are offset laterally.

Shock protection implemented in a balanced armature receiver

Sound-producing acoustic receivers are disclosed. The acoustic receiver includes a receiver housing with a first internal volume and a second internal volume, a first diaphragm separating the first internal volume into a first front volume and a first back volume such that the first front volume has a first sound outlet port, a second diaphragm separating the second internal volume into a second front volume and a second back volume such that the second front volume has a second sound outlet port, a motor disposed at least partially inside the housing such that the motor including an armature mechanically coupled to both the first diaphragm and the second diaphragm, an acoustic seal between the first front volume and the second back volume such that the acoustic seal accommodates the mechanical coupling of the armature to one of the first diaphragm or the second diaphragm.

Two coils are wrapped in one of numerous different implementations. In one implementation, the two coils are wrapped about a portion of a bobbin that has at least three flanges. The first coil is disposed about a first portion of the bobbin between the first flange and the second flange, and a second coil is disposed about a second portion of the bobbin between the second flange and the third flange.

An acoustic device and method generates an acoustic signal by applying an excitation signal to a first coil disposed about an armature of an acoustic receiver. A second coil magnetically coupled to the first coil generates an electrical output signal in response to the excitation signal applied to the first coil, wherein the output signal of the second coil is indicative of a change in a state or operation of the receiver or acoustic device. In some embodiments, the first and second coils are wired independently of each other, and the acoustic device further includes an electrical circuit which determines the change in the acoustic performance based on a change in the electrical output signal of the second coil.

Disclosed herein are related to a touch sensitive device. The touch sensitive device includes a panel with a surface including a tactile interface, where the tactile interface has surface variations forming a tactile pattern. In one aspect, tactile interaction with the tactile pattern produces an energy signature representative of the surface variations. In one aspect, the touch sensitive device further includes an electro-mechanical transducer configured to generate an electrical output signal in response to detecting the energy signature. In one aspect, an output of the electro-mechanical transducer is connectable to a processor configured to produce a control signal based on the electrical output signal of the electro-mechanical transducer.

System and method for detecting tactile interaction based on surface variations of a tactile interface

An acoustic apparatus and method produces an acoustic signal in response to an electrical input signal applied to an acoustic receiver. The acoustic signal is converted to an electrical output signal that is proportional to a sound pressure of the acoustic signal, using an electro-acoustic transducer. In some embodiments the apparatus and method determine whether there is a change in the acoustic signal indicative of a change in an acoustic load coupled to the receiver by comparing the electrical output signal to reference information. The change in acoustic load, in one example, is attributable to ear wax accumulation in an output of the acoustic receiver or acoustic passage in the ear canal of a user or is attributable to seal leakage.

A pre-distorted electrical excitation signal is generated for an acoustic transducer having an armature and a non-linear transfer characteristic by applying an electrical input signal (x) representative of a desired acoustic output to a computable non-linear function that is a function of the electrical input signal (x). When applied to an input of the transducer, the pre-distorted electrical excitation signal results in an improved acoustic output signal.

A hearing device such as a hearing aid, ear pod, headphone, or other wearable is provided, whose components include the following: an acoustic transducer with a vent port operable to produce sound, a housing of the acoustic transducer with a sound opening, and an actuatable acoustic valve disposed in the housing, where the acoustic valve is actuatable to alter passage of sound through the acoustic vent to change the state of the hearing device between an open vent state and a closed vent state, so that actuation of the valve changes an acoustic characteristic of the hearing device.

Methods and apparatus determine the actual state of one or more acoustic valves e.g., whether an acoustic valve is open or closed, in a hearing device. A sensor in the hearing device is configured to generate an output signal indicative of a state of the acoustic valve. An electrical circuit actuates the acoustic valve if the actual state is different than a desired state. The determination of the state of the acoustic valve can be done on the hearing device or on a remote device.

An acoustic device including a motor disposed in a housing having a non-porous elastomeric membrane disposed across an acoustic path defined by a sound port of the housing is disclosed. The motor may be embodied as MEMS transducer configured to generate an electrical signal responsive to an acoustic signal, or as some other electromechanical device. An electronic vaporizing inhaler comprises a liquid reservoir adapted to receive vaping liquid, and a vaporizer. The vaporizer comprises a solid partition having a plurality of capillary apertures extending transversely through the solid partition, wherein the capillary apertures provide fluid communication between the vaporizer and the liquid reservoir. A sponge is disposed in physical contact with the solid partition and overlays the plurality of capillary apertures. A wick is disposed in physical contact with and overlaying the sponge, and a heating element is disposed above the wick.

The present disclosure pertains to hearing devices configurable between open fit and closed fit configurations at different times through actuation of one or more acoustic valves located in one or more corresponding sound passages of the hearing device. The one or more acoustic valves of the hearing device are adaptively controlled based on context detected by one or more sensors. The context may be, but is not limited to, a mode of operation of the hearing devices which may include, for example, an audio content playback mode and a voice communication mode. The actuatable valves may be actuatable in situ without having to remove the hearing device from the user's ear thereby enabling the user to experience the benefit of a closed fit or an open fit depending on the user's desire or other context.
