An activity monitor system monitors a location using a sensor system and detects and responds to 'interesting events.' The system may detect events based on video processing of a substantially live sequence of images from a video camera. The system may use multi-region processing including modifying event detection based on motion in one or more regions, motion transitions, and/or motion entry and/or exit points. Events may be detected based on other sensors and the system may use a combination of sensor data to detect events. The system may store event data from the one or more sensors (e.g., video, audio, etc.) for interesting events and/or trigger alarm actions. Alarm actions may include sounding an audible alarm and enabling a substantially live video display on a monitoring device concurrently with the audible alarm. In embodiments, the activity monitor system is implemented using a smartphone and a wireless network camera.

An audio amplifier is provided having a compressor with an automatically-adjustable compressor. Compression is linked to the volume control in an inverse relationship whereby, when the volume is reduced, the compression ratio is increased to boost the listening level of quieter passages in the source material. Conversely, when the volume is increased, the compression ratio is decreased. The compression control may be physically connected to the volume control, such as in a dual-potentiometer, or may be coupled electronically, such as with a digital signal processor. An effects level control may be included to allow a listener to increase or decrease the effect of the compression by applying a multiplier to the compression ratio. An ambient noise detector may also be included such that compression is increased as ambient noise increases or exceeds a predetermined level.

The present invention has solved the collision problems in a CSMA network protocol and at the same time optimized performance of the network. This is accomplished by giving control of the size of the reserved portion and the size of the reservation portion of the communication frame to stations in the network. Further, the reserved portion is allotted to isochronous data packets each of whose length is variable. Also, only those packets that have a reservation are in the frame, and they are placed in the frame in order in accordance with there position of the permission or reservation list. The network timing is controlled by one of the stations acting as a conductor for the network. This conductor station receives the reservation requests from the other stations and builds a beat packet. The beat packet is transmitted from the conductor station to all stations of the network, and provides the timing or beat of the network that all stations are synchronized with. In addition, the beat packet contains the permission list (reservation list) identifying the stations that will transmit, and the order they will transmit during the frame. The network interrupt handler (46) and the conductor (56) at the conductor station build this beat packet.

This invention provides a portable system for adjustably grasping and cradling a model train engine or other car (especially Garden Scale) without damaging it and presenting the desired portion of such engine or car for repair or maintenance. The device used includes: a rectangular longitudinal plywood base plate having in its upper surface a pair of transverse upside-down T-slots with sloppy-fit nut members captured in the T-slots; and a pair of longitudinal plywood vertical side plates, each fitted with vertical bolt members tightenable in the corresponding nut members. When the piece to be worked on is placed between the side plates, with appropriate cushioning, the sloppy fits permit the side plates to be pushed into snug position before tightening. The device also provides a cover with a handle for portability between uses.

An order persistent timer is provided in each station on a network to control the timing of transmission of each isochronous data packet from a station, and to also control the timing of transmission of asynchronous data packets that include reservation requests. The OP timer at each station monitors traffic on the network from other stations to detect whether the network is active or idle. In an active state, the OP timer times a set interval of time sufficient to indicate the successful transmission of a packet on the frame. In the idle state (no packet on the network from another station), the OP timer times a number of deferral time intervals that are used with a network interrupt handler at the station to control the transmission of isochronous data packets without collision, and asynchronous data packets thereafter.

Order persistent timer for controlling events at multiple processing

An intelligent speaker unit is controlled by control data transmitted with the digital audio data. The intelligent speaker has a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for processing the audio data in accordance with the control data. The control data contains an address to select the speaker unit. The DSP for the speaker unit processes audio data digitally based on parameters in the control data. The processed digital audio data is then converted to an analog signal which is amplified and applied to the speaker. The digital audio data is time division multiplexed on a TDM bus. Each time slot on the TDM bus contains audio data for one digital audio channel. The control data is placed on the TDM bus as one channel (time slot) or is distributed as control bits through all the other channels. The control data also contains channel select data. Accordingly the DSP in a selected speaker unit may in turn select its audio data from a plurality of audio channels based on the control data the DSP receives. Further, the DSP may mix the selected audio channels by accumulating the audio data from the selected channels. Further, the control data contains audio control data for volume, speaker equalization and sound delay.
