A separator such as for an electrochemical double layer capacitor includes acicular inorganic particles that are dried to form a porous membrane. Example inorganic particles are calcium silicate particles. A deposition method implementing slurry that includes the acicular inorganic particles and a dispersing medium along with a binder material can be used to form the separator layer directly on electrode materials.

Ceramic separator for ultracapacitors

A glass article including: at least one anti-glare surface having haze, distinctness-of-image, surface roughness, and uniformity properties, as defined herein. A method of making the glass article includes, for example: depositing deformable particles on at least a portion of a glass surface of the article; causing the deposited deformable particles on the surface to deform and adhere to the surface; and contacting the surface having the adhered particles with an etchant to form the anti-glare surface. A display system that incorporates the glass article, as defined herein, is also disclosed.

Anti-glare surface treatment method and articles thereof

A glass article including: at least one anti-glare surface having haze, distinctness-of-image, surface roughness, uniformity properties and sparkle properties, as defined herein. A method of making the glass article includes, for example, slot coating a suspension of particles on at least one surface of the article to provide a particulated mask covering from about 40 to 92% of the coated surface area; contacting the at least one surface of the article having the particulated mask and an etchant to form the anti-glare surface, and optionally continuously polishing the suspension of particles just prior to slot coating. A display system that incorporates the glass article, as defined herein, is also disclosed.

Method for sparkle control and articles thereof

Water-based conductive ink compositions may include acid-washed graphite particles, carbon black particles, at least one polymeric dispersant, at least one acrylic binder, at least one polyvinylpyrrolidone binder, at least one defoamer, and an aqueous carrier. At least 90 wt. % of the acid-washed graphite particles and the carbon black particles, based on the combined weight of the acid-washed graphite particles and the carbon black particles, may have particle sizes less than 10 &#x3bc;m. The water-based conductive ink composition may have a total elemental contaminant level of less than 100 ppm, based on the total weight of the water-based conductive ink composition. Methods for preparing the water-based conductive ink compositions may include preparing a letdown phase from a first premix containing carbon black and a second premix containing acid-washed graphite. The methods may include washing graphite particles in an strong acid such as hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, or mixtures thereof.

A method of manufacturing a micro-lens array and light-emitting device, comprising forming a first structured polymer film with close packed surface cavities having a mean diameter of less than 20 micrometers and a relatively lower surface energy surface, forming a transparent second structured film with an array of microlenses formed thereon corresponding to the cavities of the first structured film, wherein the second structured film comprises a relatively high surface energy material and has a refractive index greater than 1.45, and wherein the microlenses are randomly distributed, separating the second structured film with the micro-lens array from the first structured polymer film, and attaching the second structured film to a transparent substrate or cover of a light-emitting device through which light is emitted. Use of microlens arrays formed from relatively high surface energy materials enables matching refractive index of microlens array to that of light-emitting devices substrate or cover through which light is emitted and relatively high elastic modulus providing good scratch resistance.

The present invention relates to a display comprising at least one substrate, at least one electronically modulated imaging layer and at least one electrically conductive layer, wherein the electronically modulated imaging layer comprises a self-assembled, close-packed, ordered monolayer of domains of guest-host material, wherein the guest-host material comprises a dichroic or pleochroic dye guest in a light modulating host in a fixed polymer matrix, and wherein the appearance of the display is independent of viewing angle.

An LC display comprises in order (a) a light source, (b) a transparent polymeric film bearing on the light exit surface of the film an array of close-packed convex microlenses having a distribution of sizes and oriented in one direction, whereby the light output is preferentially spread in a desired direction, and (c) an LC panel. Anamorphic microlens array

A light-emitting device, comprising: a light emitting element on a first side of a transparent substrate or cover through which light is emitted; and a microlens array on a second side, opposite to the first side, of the transparent substrate or cover though which light is emitted; wherein the microlens array comprises individual hemispherical shaped microlenses having a mean diameter of less than 20 micrometers and a mean microlens height to diameter ratio of greater than 0.30, and has a microlens area fill factor greater than 0.8.

A negative-working imaging member can be used as a lithographic printing plate without ablation. The imaging member comprises a support and an imaging layer that includes a dispersion of at least 0.05 g/m of a cyanoacrylate polymer that is thermally degradable below 200&deg; C., a photothermal conversion material that is present in an amount to provide a dry weight ratio to the cyanoacrylate polymer of from about 0.02:1 to about 0.8:1, and a hydrophilic binder to provide a dry weight ratio of a hydrophilic binder to the cyanoacrylate polymer of up to 1:1. Thermal imaging energy causes the exposed areas of the imaging layer to adhere to the support while unexposed areas can be readily washed off and/or simultaneously inked for press runs.

Negative-working thermal imaging member and methods of imaging and printing

A lithographic imaging member has a support having thereon a melanophobic silicone copolymer layer and a contiguous surface melanophilic layer composed of an inorganic or organic polymeric matrix. Either or both layers includes a photothermal conversion material capable of converting irradiation, such as IR radiation, to heat in exposed regions. The imaging member can include in one or more layers a material capable of promoting adhesion across the interface of the contiguous layers. This imaging member can be digitally imaged, for example using a laser, and used for printing without wet processing.
