The invention is a method of making STYROFOAM fluff from STYROFOAM. The fluff particles are torn away from the STYROFOAM by a rapidly rotating router blade. The pulling away of small pieces from the STYROFOAM provides an increased volume to the fluff.

Method of making polystyrene fluff from foamed polystyrene

The invention is a method of printing a replica of the natural iris on a contact lens. The printing is done using a rubber printing member having up raised rubber radial segments having a radius of substantially the same as the contact lens. The printing ink is applied to the radial printing segments and the rubber stamp is applied to the lens. Pressure is then applied to the rubber stamp forcing the edges of the radial printing segments to move outward moving an amount of printing ink ahead of the advancing edge. The lens is rotated and the process is repeated forming a geometric pattern resembling the human iris.

Laminated cosmetic contact lens and method of making same

Multimaterial containers are composed of layers of different materials. Plastic containers are each composed of single resin material. These containers may be granulated and mixed together, heated and moulded, to form new and useful objects. The containers with residue inside and labels outside are granulated to form a material resembling multicolored sawdust. A small amount of sugar is added and the mixture is placed in a mould. Heat is applied to caramelize the sugar and melt the granulated plastic encasing the multilayer particles within the plastic melt. Pressure is applied to remove air from the mould cavity. The mould and contents are cooled and the useful object removed from the mould.

Method of recycling multimaterial containers

The invention relates to a method of spin casting lenses having optical surfaces which may be spherical, aspherical or toric in shape. The method provides a concave optical mold having a spherical, aspherical or toric optical surface. A convex optical mold having a spherical, aspherical or toric surface is also privided. A selected liquid lens monomer with a selected catalyst is placed in the concave lens mold. The convex optical mold is positioned in the concave mold displacing the liquid lens monomer. The optical axis of the concave and convex molds are aligned and the two molds rotated about their concurrent optical axis. The liquid monomer is allowed to polymerize forming a solid polymer lens. The finished lens is then removed from the molds.

Method of making toric contact lenses

A railroad cross-tie made from sand and recycled thermoplastic containers. To practice the invention the containers made of many thermoplastic materials are granulated and mixed together. The labels and small amounts of residue from the original contents remain on the containers. Sand is dried and coated with an adhesive substance. The coated sand and recycled granulated thermoplastic plastics are mixed and heated in a compression mold to form the railroad cross-tie.

A method of making useful objects by coating grains of sand with a thin film of styrene. The styrene coating is made by making styrofoam into styrofoam fluff by providing a plurality of tearing members around a cylinder. Rotating the cylinder and tearing members and subjecting the surface of the styrofoam to the rotating tearing members. The moving tearing members rupture the styrofoam surface and tear away pieces of the styrofoam, forming styrofoam fluff. The fluff has a sectional density less than the styrofoam from which the styrofoam fluff was made. The styrofoam fluff is mixed with sand, the mixture heated, the styrofoam fluff melts and forms a coating on the sand particles.

The invention is a method of metering liquid lens monomer on to the surface of a concave spin casting mold. This is done by an atomized liquid spray applied to the mold optical surface for a precise time. An inert gas such as nitrogen is used to propel the atomized spray from the spray nozzle to the optical mold surface. The atomized spray wets the optical surface evenly reducing the contact angle to the receding angle. The duration of the spray can be precisely timed by an electronic timer valve. The volume of monomer deposited can be precisely controlled therefore the lens thickness is precisely controlled.

Method of controlling the thickness of cast lenses

A method of making useful objects by coating grains of sand with a thin film of sugar. Preparing a polymer mix of granulated plastic containers. Mixing the coated sand with the granulated plastic and placing the sand, resin mix in a mould and heating to 160.degree. C. to 300.degree. C. Applying sufficient pressure to force the air from the mould allowing the hot resin liquid to bond to the coated surface of the grains of sand. The mould and contents are cooled and the useful object removed.

The invention discloses a method of making a soft contact lens that will change the appearance of a dark brown eye to a light blue or green. The lens is made by dying the iris area of the convex (front lens surface) the desired transparent color. A white, light reflecting compound is precipitated in the iris area of the concave lens surface. The lens is placed on the cornea of a dark colored eye and the light colored concave (back lens surface) is viewed through the transparent dyed colored convex surface providing an apparent new color to the eye.

The invention is a method of making a cosmetic contact lens that changes the apparent color of the eye. This is accomplished by dying the iris area of the convex lens surface the desired transparent color. The convex surface is expanded by a swelling agent. The swelling agent increases the pore size allowing the precipitating solution to move deeper into the convex lens surface below the dyed surface layer. The precipitating solution is reacted to form an insoluble light reflecting layer. When the lens is placed on the eye, the opaque light reflecting layer is viewed through the transparent dyed surface layer changing the apparent color of the eye.

The invention is a cosmetic contact lens that alters the apparent color of the eye. The lens has a thin layer of dye on the convex surface. The dye being the color of the desired color change. Below the surface dye layer is a deeper layer of light reflecting material. The opaque light reflecting material is a light color and is placed behind the dyed transparent surface layer. When the lens is in place on the eye the light reflecting layer is viewed through the transparent dyed surface layer to provide the apparent eye color change.

The invention is a method of making a cosmetic contact lens that changes the apparent color of the eye. This is accomplished by the following steps. The convex lens surface is expanded and distorted by a swelling agent. The swelling agent increases the pore size allowing the precipitating solution to move deeper into the convex lens surface. The precipitating solution is reacted to form an insoluble light reflecting iris pattern layer. The iris area of the convex lens surface is dyed the desired transparent color. When the lens is placed on the eye, the opaque light reflecting layer is viewed through the transparent dyed surface layer changing the apparent color of the eye.

Production of cosmetic lenses

The invention is a method of making a colored cosmetic lens that will change the color of a dark colored eye to a light color. This is achieved by masking the area which are not to be colored, the pupil and periphery beyond the iris. A solution containing a contact lens dye, an expanding or swelling agent and a precipitating agent is prepared. The water soluble precipitating agent is capable of forming an insoluble precipitant when properly reacted. The lens and mask fixture are immersed in the three part solution allowing the solution to swell and enter the surface of the lens iris area. The dye and precipitating agent enter the expanded lens iris area. The lens and mask fixture are transferred from the first three part solution to the second reaction precipitating solution. A colored insoluble precipitant is formed in the lens iris area. The lens is removed from the mask fixture and washed to remove all unreacted materials.

Simplified method of producing cosmetic contact lenses

A cosmetic contact lens that changes the apparent color of the eye. The lens will change a dark brown eye to light blue or green. This color change is accomplished by having a transparent dyed iris area on the convex lens surface. A light reflecting material is precipitated in the iris area of the concave lens surface. The light colored precipitated iris area on the concave surface may be opaque. The lens pupil area is clear colorless transparent or a dyed transparent color. The peripheral lens area outside the iris area is always clear transparent. When the lens is viewed on the eye the light reflecting concave iris area is viewed through the convex transparent iris color area providing the apparent eye color change.

Dyed color change contact lens

A fiber optical cable for conducting light along its length. The cable is composed of a plurality of transparent polymer fibers. The fibers are formed by drawing the heated viscous polymer from an orifice. In pulling the softened fiber, the polymer molecules become aligned parallel to the sides of the polymer fiber. A surface coating of a lower refractive index transparent polymer is applied. The optical fibers are arranged in the desired order and heated and softened. Pressure is applied against the sides of the heated and softened fiber optic cable compressing the round polymer optical fibers to form fibers having flat sided geometric shapes to eliminate the open spaces and voids between the optical fibers.
