A hydraulically controlled apparatus responsive to changes in well annulus pressure is disclosed. The apparatus is run into a well bore intersecting an oil and gas reservoir with perforations communicating the oil and gas reservoir with the well bore. The apparatus has an associated packer to effectively seal off the perforations in the well bore. The apparatus contains a cylindrical housing with ports on the top end and bottom end, and an operating mandrel is disposed therein. A disengaging sleeve operably connected with the operating mandrel allows the ports contained on the lower portion of the cylindrical housing below the packer to be opened and closed selectively, thereby allowing communication of the reservoir pressure through the apparatus. The disengaging sleeve and operating mandrel are activated by either an increase or decrease in annulus pressure.

Hydraulically actuated downhole valve apparatus

Method and apparatus for completing a highly unconsolidated formation located downhole in a cased borehole in one trip. A tool string is run downhole into the borehole on the end of a tubing string. The tool string includes a perforating gun, a gravel packing tool, and packer means. The gravel packing tool includes a removable mandrel and a sand screen. The casing is perforated by running a gun firing device down through the tubing string and mandrel, and the well is free flowed to clean up the perforated formation. The sand screen is next positioned near the perforations and the packer means employed at each end of the screen to straddle and pack-off the perforated pay zone. The mandrel is then manipulated to form an isolated flow path which extends from the surface of the ground into the annulus behind the screen, and then back uphole from the screen to the casing annulus located between the tubing string and the casing, so that gravel admixed with fluid can flow down the tubing string into the screen annulus where the gravel separates from the fluid. The carrier fluid returns through the screen, back up through the tool string, into the casing annulus, and to the surface of the ground. The tool string is left downhole in the borehole as a permanent completion device. Produced fluid flows through the perforations, through the gravel and sand screen, and back uphole through the tubing string.

Well completion method and apparatus

Apparatus is run on tubing string for pressure surging operations. Fluid is in the annular area between the tubing string and the well bore and fluid is also within the tubing string with a packer separating the annulus fluid from the tubing fluid. A first valve body contains means for connecting the valve body to the tubing string and has flapper valve head means normally blocking fluid flow through the first valve body. A valve seat is carried on the first valve body. A first piston is responsive to pressurization of the annulus fluid to shift the flapper valve head away from the seat to allow fluid flow through the first valve body. Locking means are carried on the first valve body to prevent longitudinal shifting of the first piston in at least one direction after the piston is shifted to open the first valve. A second valve body is responsive to tubing pressure and contains first lock means for locking a seal means therein to isolate the central bore. A by-pass is defined on the second valve body and is closed by location of second piston means selectively sealingly located thereacross. The second piston means is responsive to pressurization of the tubing fluid to move the piston in a first direction to a first position to open the fluid by-pass. Means for locking the second piston in a first position are on the piston and the second valve body. A cylindrical tubular air chamber communicates between the valve bodies.

Apparatus is provided for running, setting and anchoring a liner in a well bore casing, comprising inner and outer bodies with expander and gripping means carried on the bodies to provide means for gripping engagement with casing. A running tool is secured to the bodies and defines drag means thereon to resist longitudinal travel while the apparatus is being mechanically set. A piston element is carried on the running tool and is responsive to fluid pressure entrappable in a piston pressure chamber to hydraulically set the hanger. Mechanical setting means are provided and may be activated to set the hanger upon failure of the hydraulic activation means.

Hydraulically set liner hanger and running tool with backup mechanical

An apparatus and method are provided for running, setting and anchoring a liner in a well bore casing, said apparatus being connectable to a tubular member extendible to the top of the well. The apparatus comprises an inner longitudinally extending body with an outer longitudinally extending body being around the inner body. Connection means on one of said inner and outer bodies are provided for connection of a liner extending below the apparatus. Expander means are carried on one of the inner and outer bodies, with gripping means being carried on the other of the inner and outer bodies. The gripping means are engagable with the expander means such that the gripping means are shifted into gripping engagement with the casing. A manipulatable tubular running tool is releasably secured to the inner and outer bodies. Drag means are mounted on the running tool and are slidable longitudinally along the casing, the drag means resisting longitudinal travel of the apparatus while in the well bore with sufficient frictional force to support the weight of one of the inner and outer bodies therebelow. Disengaging means are provided for selective disengagement of the running tool from the inner and outer bodies. Setting means are carried on the running tool and are operably associated with the drag means, the setting means being responsive to manipulation of the running tool to longitudinally shift one of the inner and outer bodies with respect to the other of the inner and outer bodies to anchor the liner to the casing. Wiper means selectively disengagable from the running tool are provided together with means for disengagement of the wiper means from the running tool. Side seal means are carried on the running tool to detect disengagementof the running tool from the inner and outer bodies.
