A method of coating a substrate is disclosed in which a non-aqueous composition is applied to the substrate and then exposed to UV-A light until the composition is substantially cured. The non-aqueous composition comprises an unsaturated (meth)acrylate polymer or oligomer, reactive diluents, one or more photoinitators, an optional solvent or mixture of solvents, and up to 15% by weight of a flattener. A coating is formed having an 85&#xb0; gloss of less than 15.

Low gloss radiation-curable compositions

The present invention provides a dual-cure composition containing multifunctional polyols, uretdiones, peroxide curable monomers containing unsaturation and crosslinking agents. The dual-cure composition may be used to form a high modulus material useful as the matrix in a prepreg material and in composites. The present invention also relates to methods for the production of the dual-cure composition, prepreg materials comprising the dual-cure composition and a fibrous support, and composites made from the prepreg material.

Dual cure composite resins containing uretdione and unsaturated sites

The present invention relates to a flexible sensing material made from (a) at least one flexible polymeric layer and (b) at least one conductive, curable coating layer containing about 0.01 wt. % to about 5 wt. % of multi-walled carbon nanotubes having a diameter of greater than about 4 nm, about 10 wt. % to about 99 wt. % of an aliphatic urethane acrylate and about 0.1 wt. % to about 15 wt. % of a photoinitiator, wherein the weight percentages are based on the weight of the formulation, wherein the coating layer is curable by exposure to radiation and wherein the cured coating layer has a surface resistivity of about 10&#x3a9;/&#x25a1; to about 10&#x3a9;/&#x25a1;. The inventive sensing material may prove useful for sensing one or more of pressure, temperature and moisture and find use in a wide variety of applications.

Novel ketal compounds can be made from an oxocarboxylate and a triol. Novel polymeric structures are, in turn, synthesized from the ketal compounds. Such ketal compounds and associated polymers are useful in a broad range of applications as a substitute for materials derived from petroleum or other such nonrenewable resources.

Ketal compounds from polyols and oxocarboxylates

The invention relates to polyketal compounds. The compounds are synthesized by the selective ketalization of oxocarboxylic acids, e.g. keto acids and semialdehydes, and esters thereof with tetrols and higher polyols that products two or more cyclic ketal ester moieties per molecule, wherein the cyclic ketal moieties are situated in a bis-, tris-, or polyketal conformation. The invention further relates to applications of these compounds and subsequent reactions thereof.
