A device for use in monitoring operation of a plurality of system assets includes a storage device configured to store a model of a plurality of system assets and a processor coupled to the storage device. The processor is configured to receive data representative of a status of the system assets, and display, in a first display state, a plurality of asset images representative of the system assets using the model. The processor is also configured to display, in a second display state, a first asset image of the asset images within the display upon a determination that the system asset represented by first asset image is in an alarm state, and display, in a third display state, the remaining asset images within the display upon a determination that the system assets represented by the remaining asset images are not in an alarm state.

Methods and apparatus for monitoring operation of a system asset

Systems and methods are provided for monitoring operating machinery to identify fault frequency sets for consumable components used in the machinery. Data associated with characteristic behavior of the machinery being monitored is acquired and analyzed, comparing known vendor information regarding fault frequencies for specified components to vibration frequencies observed in the machine in service. The systems and methods described herein enable an operator to identify and confirm critical information such as the location of and/or vendor identity for components exhibiting fault vibration behavior.

The system also includes a magnetostriction sensor coupled to the reciprocating compressor and configured to measure a change in magnetic permeability of a target material of the reciprocating compressor. The magnetostrictive sensor includes a driving coil configured to receive a first driving current and to emit a first magnetic flux portion through a target and a second magnetic flux portion. The magnetostrictive sensor also includes a first sensing coil configured to receive the first magnetic flux portion and to transmit a signal based at least in part on the received first magnetic flux portion. The received first magnetic flux portion is based at least in part on a force on the target. The magnetostrictive sensor further includes a magnetic shield disposed between the driving coil and the first sensing coil. The magnetic shield is configured to reduce the second magnetic flux portion received by the first sensing coil.

A device for monitoring operation of a plurality of system assets includes a storage device configured to store a model of a plurality of system assets, wherein the model includes a plurality of asset images associated with the system assets, and a plurality of component connections representative of a plurality of conduits coupled to the system assets. The device also includes a processor coupled to the storage device. The processor is configured to display the plurality of asset images and to display the plurality of component connections. The processor is also configured to select an asset image, display a status of a system asset associated with the selected asset image, and automatically display a representation of at least one of a process flow entering the system asset and a process flow exiting the system asset when the asset image is selected.

Methods and systems for creating Campbell diagram displays for illustrating vibration characteristics of a moving apparatus, such as a rotary machine, are provided. Data, representing vibration amplitudes and frequencies are recorded against rotational speeds of an apparatus. The data is used to create waveforms representing the forward and/or reverse vibration frequencies of the apparatus. The waveforms in turn are used to create spectral line envelopes to provide enhanced two dimensional images indicating the amplitudes of the vibrations of the apparatus at particular rotational speeds. The spectral line envelopes may be empty, filled with one or more colors, or other illustration features to impart solidity to the envelopes to enhance visibility.

There is set forth herein a method comprising applying a drive signal to a drive element in a sensor assembly having a drive element and one or more sensor element so that responsively to the drive signal the drive element generates a magnetic flux that travels through a target, determining a strain of the target using a picked up output signal picked up by the one or more sensor element. In one embodiment, a sensor assembly can be employed for detecting a proximity of the target using a picked up output signal picked up by e.g., the drive element. In one embodiment, a drive signal can have a plurality of frequency components.

The method includes learning what normal operating conditions are for a machine of interest by acquiring data during observed normal operation, then calculating detection threshold values based on the acquired data. Finally, real-time monitoring of the machinery of interest during operation is employed, with alarms triggered upon occurrence of a previously-defined number of occurrences of behavior exceeding parameters associated with normal operation behavior.

A system and method for configuring a communications interface between a monitoring apparatus and one or more equipment monitoring components is disclosed. The equipment monitoring components are designed to physically and/or electrically interface with each other while in proximity to equipment being monitored. Each of these components has a proximately disposed unique associated machine readable code. A set of configuration information is also associated with the machine readable code. The codes are scanned and mapped to the configuration information in order to automate configuration of communication between the monitoring apparatus and equipment monitoring components.

The monitoring system includes a data management system that includes a database configured to store data representative of at least one operating characteristic of at least one machine. A portable display assembly is coupled to the data management system and includes at least one sensor configured to detect the presence of the machine within a predefined distance from a portion of the display assembly. The display assembly also includes a communication interface that is coupled to the data management system and is configured to receive the data. Moreover, the display assembly includes a display media that is coupled to the communication interface for presenting an output representative of the data to a user of the display assembly such that the user is enabled to view historical data of the machine and/or monitor the machine in real-time.

A method of isolating a frequency in a rotating machine having at least one sensor includes receiving, from the at least one sensor, a sensor signal that includes at least one frequency, converting the sensor signal to a digital vibration signal, modifying the vibration signal to generate an envelope signal, synchronously oversampling the envelope signal to generate a synchronous envelope signal, and transforming the synchronous envelope signal into a frequency spectrum to isolate the frequency.

Methods and systems for isolating a frequency in a rotating machine

A blade monitoring system for calculating average threshold crossings from interpolated threshold crossings of digital waveform samples is disclosed. Each digital waveform sample is converted by an analog-to-digital converter from one of two split analog signals. Each split analog signal is received from a signal splitter that receives each analog signal from an analog signal transmitter. Each analog signal is from a sensed blade passing signal from at least one row of a plurality of blades on a compressor of a turbine.

Disclosed is a method for assessing deterioration in a gearbox. Data is obtained from an operating gearbox regarding harmonic frequencies and their related sidebands generated as a consequence of the gearbox operation. In a first embodiment, a Sideband Energy Ratio (SER) is calculated by dividing the amplitude of the sum of sideband signals associated with a harmonic to the amplitude of the harmonic. In a second embodiment, a SER is calculated based on sideband amplitudes associated with adjacent harmonics. The ratio may be monitored over time or compared to one or more values to provide an indication of deterioration.
