A method of manufacturing a fitting for fluidic coupling in a chromatography system includes welding a tube sleeve and an inner tube at an endface of each of the tube sleeve and the inner tube to create a tube assembly having a welded tube assembly endface and polishing the welded tube assembly endface.

Fitting for fluidic coupling in a chromatography system

Described is a multi-channel fluidic device that includes a diffusion-bonded body having a device surface and a plurality of fluid channels. Each fluid channel includes a channel segment defined in a plane that is parallel to the device surface and parallel to each of the planes of the other channel segments. The plane of each channel segment is at a depth below the device surface that is different from the depth below the device surface for the other planes. Each channel segment may have a volume equal to the volume of each of the other channel segments. One of the fluid channels may include a plurality of channel segments serially connected to each other and each defined in a plane that is different from the planes of the other channel segments.

A rotary valve that includes a stator, a rotor and a plurality of sample channels. The stator includes a stator surface having an inlet port, an outlet port and a plurality of selectable ports. The rotor includes a rotor surface having a first rotor channel and a second rotor channel. The rotor is configurable in a plurality of rotor positions, each of which couples the inlet port to one of the selectable ports through the first rotor channel and couples the outlet port to another one of the selectable ports through the second rotor channel. The two selectable ports are coupled to each other through one of the sample channels. The rotor has a bypass state defined by a rotor position, or angular range of rotor positions, at which the inlet port is coupled to the outlet port through the second rotor channel.

A system that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a process that includes obtaining a porous medium comprising a porous material having a first shape and an initial porosity profile. The porous medium is engaged with a cavity in a fluidic device, wherein the cavity is in fluid communication with a channel of the fluidic device. The first shape of the porous material can be adjusted to a second shape resulting in the initial porosity profile being adjusted to a target porosity profile. Such adjustment can be accomplished by the engaging of the porous medium with the cavity, by pre-adjusting a shape of the porous media before insertion into the cavity, or by some combination thereof. The invention generally provides a static back pressure regulator. In exemplary embodiments, the static back pressure regulator includes a seat that defines part of a fluid pathway, a poppet, a spring arranged to bias the poppet toward the seat to restrict fluid flow through the fluid pathway, and a calibration element configured to adjust a force applied to the poppet by the spring. The calibration element can include a through hole that forms part of the fluid pathway. The poppet can include a first guiding portion that extends into the through hole of the calibration element and inhibits tipping of the poppet relative to the seat.

Low-pressure mixing of fluids includes a pumping system having a pump and a fluidic inlet port through which fluid is introduced to the pump. A fluid proportioning system is in fluidic communication with the fluidic inlet port of the pumping system to deliver thereto a fluid stream comprised of multiple different fluids. The fluid proportioning system includes a manifold having a plurality of inlet ports, an outlet port connected by tubing to the fluidic inlet port of the pumping system, and an outlet conduit providing an internal fluidic passageway to the outlet port. Each inlet port is fluidically coupled to a fluid source to receive one of the different fluids and to the outlet conduit to deliver thereto the received fluid for delivery out of the manifold through the outlet port to the fluidic inlet port of the pumping system.

A pin valve assembly and a method of controlling the flow of fluids comprising a pin block housing pin valves, a fluid plate with a fluid channel for fluidically communicating with the pin valves, and a fitting block housing fittings for fluidic communication with the fluid plate and for fluidic communication with fluidic components. In various embodiments a fluid control device suitable for high pressure analytical instruments includes a housing having an interior surface with an end wall. The interior surface defines a chamber. A valve assembly disposed in the chamber controls the flow of fluid through the chamber. An end cap is disposed in the housing opposite the end wall to enclose the chamber. The end wall and end cap each have an opening to pass a fluid to the chamber or to remove a fluid from the chamber. The housing and end cap each has an abutment surface to receive the other abutment surface. At least one of the abutment surfaces has a plastic seal coating. A means of compression, such as a compression housing and compression sleeve, is included to engage the end cap to deform the plastic seal coating between the abutment surfaces and thereby seal the chamber.

A chromatographic flow cell having the capacity to handle fluid flow from one or more chromatographic systems, at widely varying flow rates without the need to change flow cells or detectors. The flow cell itself acts as a tee where two or more fluidic inlet lines intersect with a common inlet channel. The common inlet channel is configured so that the diameter and length minimizes the total volume, unswept volume, bandspreading, and backpressure. The common outlet channel, inlet lines and the outlet line are sized to provide for adequate fluidic handling at the varied flow rates.
